Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz apologized for comments they made via Twitter Saturday night regarding the outcome of the George Zimmerman case in Florida.

Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter charges in the shooting death of 17-year old Trayvon Martin, sparking debate among many NFL players over social media.

White sent out a tweet asking “what kind of world” we live in and recommending that the jurors in the case “go home and kill themselves.”

In the apology, White said he was shocked by the verdict and was upset. White, a nine-year NFL veteran, is no stranger to giving his opinion. Earlier this month, he blasted the Boston Celtics for hiring former Butler coach Brad Stevens

Cruz, who recently signed five-year, $43 million contract extension, said he doesn’t advocate violence under any circumstances. In his tweet, he said “Zimmerman doesn’t last a year before the hood catches up to him.” He immediately deleted the tweet.

I feel very badly for Trayvon's family as I do for Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman's families--and all families that lose kids to senseless violence. The justice system isn't necessarily fair all the time, but it's what we have. Zimmerman was acquitted as was OJ and many others, move on. The fact that the GOVERNMENT is trying so hard to pin something on this guy is atrocious. None of us are safe anymore from a very aggressive government. We have our day in court and if were acquitted, then we have to worry about the Feds coming after us? Zimmerman needs to sue the prosecutor, NBC, Al Sharpton and that Congresswoman that dresses like "my little pony" for their bigotry. DOJ, you want to consider civil rights violations? How about well known people going on national TV and convicting Zimmerman before any facts were released. What a bunch of bigots.

as a long time fan of the NFL, I've had enough of this so-called stars. I would like to start a boycott of all the games and lets see how these ##$##$ make it in the real world. I apologize if  I offended anyone!!!

The real reason both "apologized"?

Because they quickly realized that WHITE people are the ones who are filling NFL stadiums on Sundays and paying their exorbitant salaries.

Placating the "hood" only works if the people who "keep it real" also keep those stadiums full and pay for the PSLs.

Every NFL stadium is filled with 50, 60, 70K plus largely white males who regardless of their lot in life choose to fork over tons of money to see their favorite football teams live.

It is not just the affluent who buy season tickets either as many a blue collar white guy will forgo a  lot of pleasures in life and even a few necessities (sadly) to be able to sit in the stadium and drink an overpriced beer while forgetting about life for a few hours.

The largely black players in the NFL have a desire to placate the urban audience but quickly realize it is not the urban audience that keeps them well paid and keeps the NFL such a thriving business.

It's white guys paying a lot of money to see them play and tweets like these sort of tell the customers to go away in no uncertain terms.

These apologies are so come training camp that fat white guys in jerseys will want a picture with a guy like Roddy White and still be willing to hand over the money to see him play.

These apologies are phony and nothing more than a quick business decision once the powers that be educated these players as to just which demographic keeps them wealthy and has afforded them celebrity.

No more Campbell's Soup in my house until Cruz is fired as their spokesman.

The comment by Cruz, especially, perpetuates - and reinforces - the very stereotype and image that he, liberals and black activists sought to condemn by using heavy-handed PC pressure to force a trial -- that ALL blacks have roots in a violent 'hood' and are very dangerous AT FACE VALUE. And that same 'stereotyped'  gun-totin' (illegally & unregistered as opposed to Zimmerman), gangsta' hood culture is going to make Z a marked man! Brilliant, Victor - thanks for the confirmation!

Fact is none of us know the truth and probably never will! It's awful a young man lost his life, and sadly if this was a case where it was a black security guard, or a white kid and white security guard, or two Latinos we would never hear about it! In the end the jury was given 27 pages and they followed the law!! I am sickened and saddened to see comments like this by public figures! I hope the NFL does more then expect an apology from them. We fine player for giving a cut throat gesture in the end zone, and fore a player to suggest that 6 women hang themselves for doing their civil duty is disgusting!! I'm ashamed of these players and of the NFL!!

Anyone watch ESPN's First Take this morning?

The shameless pandering by Bayless and Smith to the racist left that even brought this (no)case to light was indeed sickening.

Bayless with his sock puppet act of yessing and blessing of Smith's every word and Smith after his usual non stop babbling nonsense that basically said this was a travesty of justice, then ended it with; but, there was no evidence.

I just do not have the words to describe how much I would have loved to confront these two stooges for their race baiting and hypocrisy. ESPN has morphed into a mini MSNBC mouth piece for the left.

This all hinges on one thing and one thing only.  Zimmerman lost track of Martin for 5 minutes.  So instead of going home and staying out of a confrontation Martin snuck around and set up an ambush for Zimmerman.  This has nothing to do with race. Only the racist liberal progressives think it does.

Geez, I wish I could shake Victor Cruz's hand. I'm not bothered by this at all. Everyone makes mistakes and he did the right thing and apologized for it. I wish more people could be like him.I think he's a great role model. I'll never forget what he did for that little boy and his family involved in the Sandy Hook massacre. Victor Cruz is aces in my humble opinion and always will be.

I jut read about what you use Watermelon Iced Tea and Skittles for.  LOL at he was just a kid heading to the store for a bag of candy.  No idea what really happened, but that is incredibly misleading to ignore that.

Stick to football fellows. He was acquitted based on the evidence presented pertaining to the laws of Florida as they exist today. The problem is not with the judge or jury, it's with the laws in Florida.

PAZSKY

This isn't even a black or white issue- he's HISPANIC. So when a white woman marries a black guy and has a kid, he is black, BUT when when its a white and hispanic having a kid, he's white? Really? Racism, alive and well in this country on BOTH sides. And the issue isn;t about their support for Treyvon Martin, its their blatant ridiculous comments about wishing the jury would die. Big difference.

I do not know how George Zimmerman injured his face.  Did Trayvon Martin do it or were GZ's injuries self inflicted to beat a murder rap?  I apologize for my suspicion but I live in a country where no rich white kid ever gets mistakenly shot by a black cop on the "honest and reasonable" belief the rich white kid was going for a gun.  In my society, America, seems white and especially hispanic cops kill unarmed black people on the mistaken but "honest" and "reasonable" belief that the unarmed black person was going for a weapon.  If GZ shot TM in self defense, why did he have to kill him?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but honestly, calm the racism down. Both sides. No, not all white people are bad. No, most black people are NOT criminals. Those are called stereotypes and lead to discrimination. Why did this all happen? Because some random guy was profiling based off of stereotypes. Regardless of what actually happened, the fact of the matter is that Zimmerman should never have gone after Martin to begin with. We can all avoid this if people learn to mind their business and not discriminate. Start with yourself and work from there.

@nosocialism4me Apparently none of us are safe from untrained vigilantes either.  He was driving around in a car acting as neighborhood watch- why did he get out within distance to be confronted (if in fact he didn't start the confrontation)?  Because he knew he had a nine to zero round advantage.  This is not somethign for non-cops to be doing on US streets ever.  Laws that allow this need to be changed now.

@Wil2 Pro football is silly and the typical viewer is intellectually lazy.  Ever heard of a smoke screen? Obviously these two guys have.   Pro sports are a diversion from reality, the reality is that none of these guys should be idolized, being born big and strong they choose to make playing with balls a profession.

Just my opinion, but I have a strong feeling that if half of the viewers of pro sports would spend your weekends learning about the history of our nation along with that of the world. We wouldn't be spending our time arguing about racial inequality, we'd be celebrating the fact that we live in a country shaped by its citizens.

@TheBigStroonzo Espn's Steven Smith is a complete tool.  He clearly hates white people and clearly sees nothing wrong with violence by blacks.  Did he condemn Ray Lewis?  No.  Did he say ANYTHING negative when Stallworth killed that pedestrian while driving during extreme DUI?  No.  Steven Smith is like rap "music".  Have no contact with either as both are incredibly idiotic, offensive and harm the brain.

Skip Bayless will agree with ANY black person about ANYTHING.  He probably thinks the LAPD "framed" OJ.

No, the problem is that this entire case was politicized from beginning to end.  (Don't believe me?  Zimmerman was immediately labeled "White Hispanic."  Not to fan the flames or anything, 'cause this unusual racial description is common as pebbles on a beach, as well we know. /sarc off/)

Had the Political Correctness crowd kept their hands off, there's a good chance Zimmerman wouldn't have been charged with anything.

@PAZSKY 'Hispanic' is not a race.  There are black people who are Hispanic, and White people who are Hispanic.

JMaf
JMaf

@PAZSKY Liberals love to torture the info to make it represent whatever they want or need it to represent in a given situation.

We're supposed to believe that Elizabeth Warren, uber-liberal new MA Senator and former Obama admin official, was legitimately Native American, b/c she CLAIMED to have 1/16th (or 1/32nd?) Cherokee ethnicity from a 8th generation, or so, relative her 'spin' team came up with, and she used that claim to gain Affirmative Action advantage on her way up. BUT someone who is 50 percent Hispanic supposedly doesn't qualify as 'true' Hispanic.

The same standard is applied by liberals and Left media with regard to ethnic political candidates. Ethnic candidates represent diversity and are the ideal for our democracy deserving of automatic credibility (even if they are utter novices with no serious qualifications for the position sought, e.g. Obama) - as long as they are Democrats. If they are Republicans, they are merely tokens, puppets and sham representatives of the 'good ol' boy' white corp society, and deserve to be written off.

JMaf

You "don't know how Zimmerman injured his face"?? By bumping it into Martin's fist repeatedly! Did he self-inflict the gash on the back of his head, as well? That to me says it all. To all the folks who say, "we don't know what really happened", a gash on the back of his head is pretty clear substantiation of the scenario that Zimmerman was on the ground with Martin on top pounding his head off the concrete. As for those who claim Zimmerman was not in a life threatening situation, just how many times do you suppose you can pound your head into the ground without sustaining life threatening injuries?? Maybe you should ask Brian Stow - the Giants fan who was beaten at Dodger Stadium, was in critical condition in a coma for a week, and now has brain damage - if a beating by 'only' fists can be life threatening and life altering. DUMB!

JMaf
JMaf

@NelsonSchwartz "why did he have to kill him"?? He shot him once, in the chest. He didn't fire six rounds into his head. You're grappling in combat with your head being bounced off the ground by the guy on top of you - how exactly do you 'shoot to wound' ? You shoot at the torso, and what the bullet does is beyond your control. You have to shoot to SUBDUE. What if you try to shoot the kid in the arm, or some such thing, and miss or wing him -- then he fights you for the gun and kills you!!

Meh, you can't fix stupidity and ignorance. If I'm being followed, I will do my best to disappear. I won't let a stranger follow me home because that would put my family in danger. No, I'm not a liberal, so everyone thinking that I'm a bleeding heart, put yourself in the victim's shoes. It's night time, you're on your way home and someone is following you. What do you do?

matt37

@tigersports Teenage black males were seen breaking into homes in the area.  The night watchman pursued a teenage black male that was seen acting suspiciously.  That's not "profiling", that's common sense and good work.

donald5

@tigersports I thought he went after him because he fit a description of people that were breaking into houses in the neighborhood.  I guess police are "stereotyping" if they stop a black male even if they hear over the radio that a black male has been committing a specific crime in a specific area.

@matt37 @tigersports Simply walking through the neighborhood is not "suspicious."  If Zimmerman had observed Martin peeking in windows, or checking for unlocked door knobs, that would be entirely different, and justifiable.

@MikeKing @tigersports Some people have read the transcript of Zimmerman's call to 911. Maybe that's how they know Zimmerman knew Martin was black. Google is your friend.

@jakey jake - I have to agree.  White people can't say anything about race or anything racial, b/ecause the dreaded "r" word gets dropped about them, but Smith? All he talks about is race race race.  It's pretty obvious to white people that black people love racist topics.

And another thing.  The whole Trayvon Martin fiasco?  I get a kick out of black people "protesting" violently. They're not political, they just love being violent.  It's as if they don't want other people be successful because they're not.  Sad and pathetic.

..."minding his own business?"  That's your description of skulking around in a neighborhood in which he didn't live, matching the description of thieves who'd been breaking into homes

If Travyon was such a lamb, how come the only pics we ever see of him are 5+ years old?

matt37
matt37

@evil.aaronm @matt37 @tigersports Zimmerman says that he did see TM peeking in windows.  Regardless, it's not illegal for GZ to walk after TM.  What GZ did is not legal justification for the beating TM threw on him.  That's a fact.  However, that beating IS legal justification for using deadly force to defend yourself.

Point being, it might be a bad decision for GZ to get out of the vehicle.  But he didn't break any laws and there is not proof beyond a reasonable doubt that GZ's story isn't true.

MidwestGolfFan

@evil.aaronm @matt37 @tigersports

Playing fast and loose with the facts, aren't you?  What WAS Martin doing in a neighborhood in which he didn't live?  Why did innocent lamb Travyon disappear for 4-5 minutes?  It couldn't have been because a) he was casing the joint; b) he was sneaking up on Zimmerman to attack him?

Naw, of course not. Travyon Martin, innocent little lamb.  Why, just look at his picture...that's 5+ years old.
