Major League Baseball announced Rays pitcher Matt Moore will replace Yu Darvish on the American League roster for the 2013 All-Star Game to be played Tuesday.

AL All-Star manager Jim Leyland opted to add Moore, a left-hander, to fill the void created when the Rangers placed Darvish on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. Darvish is recovering from a strained trapezius muscle but will attend All-Star Game festivities in New York.

Moore, 24, has allowed 83 hits and 55 walks while holding hitters to a .213 batting average this season. It’s his first selection to an All-Star Game.

Darvish, a right-hander who is 8-4 this season with a 3.02 ERA and MLB-leading 157 strikeouts, is expected to only miss one start for the Rangers.
