Milwaukee Bucks unrestricted free agent guard Monta Ellis fired his agent Jeff Fried on Wednesday because of a lack of lucrative offers, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN.com.

Ellis opted out of the final year of his six-year, $66 million deal with the Bucks to seek a higher contract elsewhere, but so far, Ellis hasn’t received the kind of money he thinks he deserves, according to Broussard, who said Ellis is expected to sign with Dan Fegan. The former Most Improved Player of the Year from 2007 had turned down a contract extension with the Bucks that would’ve paid him $36 million over three years, but according to Broussard, the 27-year-old is holding out for a four-year deal worth $40 million.

On Tuesday, Ellis, who averaged 19.2 points and 6.0 assists for Milwaukee last season, had indicated that he would like to have a deal in place within the next 36-48 hours. With the recent parting of ways with Fried, it’s possible that timetable will be extended.

Among the teams that have shown interest in him are the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Bobcats. The Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers are also interested but don’t have the cap flexibility to pay him anywhere near the ballpark of $10 million per year that he is seeking.

Monta Ellis is not a poor defender . Of course he isn't the best defender on the court but thats strictly because of his size and position. Most of you guys sound like idiots. How well would you play defense against players that are 3-5 inches taller than you and possibly 15-50 pounds bigger. The only reason he plays shooting guard is because of his great scoring ability. He's a shooting guard it a point guards body.. POINT/Blank

He seemed really disinterested and lackluster when he was playing for the Bucks.  It was obvious he didn't want to play there.  You could see it from his body language.  Sometimes he's not even even getting back on offense as quicklly as his teammates.  The chemistry with him and Stephen Curry when he was with Golden State wasn't that great but it was worse with Jennings.   I guess he didn't mind losing $1M per year for 3 years.

Im the biggest monta fan... i know he shoots to much and makes erratic shots... not much defense... but this guy can put up points... he will get a good deal... he should take less money and go to a contender but hey who am I to tell a millionaire what to do

Geezus--turning down $36 million over 3 years. Karma, buddy--it's called karma.

Bucks were crazy to offer him $36M over 3 years.   He's a poor shooter and even worse on defense.  Of the top 50 scorers last season, Ellis was 2nd worst in shooting pct.

So, he wants to be paid 10 million per year instead of 12 million? I guess he isn't very good at math. Also, perhaps he hasn't received this deals because he's selfish and a poor defender, as opposed to his agent.

Well, if he doesn't get an offer he can go join a sideshow as the tattooed freak.

Earth to Monta: you're not getting offers like that because you're not remotely worth that much.

He's not even worth the amount of money he wants to be paid. He's inconsistent and he's too small to play D. So overrated

He must have just really wanted out of Milwaukee bc the money part makes no sense. He would of got 12 mil if he opted in. He thought teams would be falling over each other to sign him which is why he prob opted out, which comes back to his agent he should of known this or at least had an idea of how much teams would put up.

Wait a minute, he's pissed off because he didn't want 12mil per year over 3yrs (36mil Bucks offer) but would rather holdout for a 10mil per year over 4yrs?! A difference of 4mil over a one year period. He must not think he's worth 4mil for a season after 3yrs. Blaming his agent is a fail.

monta need to hire jay-z---he don't put up with no BS.  jay-z will demand $15 mil or tell his man to hold out.

@burghkid18 I think he still is an asset to a good team or a Great scoring option for a bad one but yea 10 mil is a slight reach. Monte is a beast tho some nights he looks like an allstar

@jeebs Sometimes its the yrs that make a difference. These are people that want to settle down sometimes.

@Anaximenes1 Yeah, you get a TON of money when you hold out, especially when you have NO team.

@warechauncey @jeebs Maybe it's just me not sympathizing with the plight of 27 year old millionaires who get paid to play a sport they love but I simply don't understand your line of thinking. He's already got 10s of millions in the bag and now he's quibbling over one year!? Please, go explain it to someone else because I refuse to acknowledge that.
