New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft broke his silence on Monday commenting for the first time regarding former tight end Aaron Hernandez’s murder charge, saying, “if this stuff is true, then I’ve been duped and our whole organization has been duped.”

Kraft said Hernandez was a “most likeable young man” and acknowledged that the team “made a mistake and are facing it head on.” Kraft also says they will “renew efforts and look at procedures.”

Hernandez sits in a Massachusetts jail awaiting charges of the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd and also faces five other guns charges stemming from the crime. The team released Hernandez the day he was arrested and will absorb a $7.5 million salary cap charge next year.

EAGLE: Hernandez arrest warrants unsealed

Kraft said the team had no idea that Hernandez would be facing a murder charge when it released him and said the team  had no knowledge of Hernandez’s actions outside of Gillette Stadium.

“My heart goes out to the Lloyd family,” he said. “I feel bad that someone connected to our organization is connected to this.”

Aaron H. got a $9.25 Million signing bonus in his  contract. He begged the Patriots for a chance and promised to keep his nose clean prior to being signed.

Robert Kraft is guilty of nothing other than giving a good player a chance to play football in the NFL and paying him a bunch of $$$. He (Kraft) is not responsible for off-field antics of grown men.

He actually believes anyone will buy his story. Kraft and his ilk deserve everything that comes with this saga.

Will anyone in the medical field make the LOUD and SOLID announcement of the link between anger/rage and performance enhancing drugs and these sports figures are known to push and push to get a spot on the team. I've read of it being common that bodybuilders get hemoroids from "super duper straining" to lift a higher wieght.

Ah, not much connection..

when are these megabuck low information owners going to stop putting rap sheet thugs on the field?

You can hire private eyes to do background investigations for what they are paid in 5 minutes of game.

Old man Kraft is getting "duped" a lot.   His now charged with murder player duped him.   Putin duped him out of a Super Bowl ring.   So when Welker has an awesome season in Denver... "et tus, dupey, Kraft?

Kraft is a lying POS. Hernandez was known to be trouble and had already been investigated in 2 shootings before he was drafted, which is why so many other teams passed on a player who was so productive in college.

Illegals and their culture, yet another violation of our rights. The gov’t constantly violates our rights.

They violate the 1st Amendment by caging protesters and banning books like "America Deceived II".

They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by allowing TSA to grope you.

They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars.

Impeach Obama.

Last link of "America Deceived II" before it is completely banned:

There needs to be a door behind the judge's chair that this guy needs to enter even before the trial and 5 minutes after he enters the room "power from the whole north east of our country has a power surge:  The cost of the trial will help the state with their budget

Hernandez is a sociopath. He can seem nice and wonderful and then kill without remorse. That's what sociopaths do.

Two words---Ray Lewis

The guy committed murder, or was at the least an accessory, but he walked because he was a good linebacker.  Not to mention he was portrayed as Uncle Remis during the SB week and game.

This is not the first NFL player accused of murder.  These teams deserve to be sued.

Please, if you took the thugs out of the NFL, you would only be left with white guys and the NBA would have to be completely disbanded.

i dont believe this for one second.  SI reporters should look hard at the Pats here.  an organization that Spygate cheated is likely to have known full well this guy was a repeat killer (as evidence appears to suggest his latest murder was to stop anyone from knowing about previous murders), and if they did know that and worked to keep it hush that should be the end of the Pats organization

yeah so every other team in the NFL didn't want him because of his past history and we are supposed to believe these guys had no idea what eh was like? suuuuure ..

It is a sport of over grown, steroid ridden thugs, put there to entertain.  The emotional responses to this article explain all to well why the people running that dog and pony show do what they do.   You football fans are to blame for these messes.

With the amount of back ground checking that goes on in the NFL, "someone" turn the other cheek and gave him a chance.

This ain't the movie bomb "Eyes Wide Shut", this is business and you guys did what you did to the new movie title "Eyes Wide Open" and you got caught.  Problem is no other team with take him and New England does not live in a vacuum so nice try.  P.S.  Originally from Mass and die hard Celtic's, Sox's Bruin"s and NEP's fan, then this stupid more happens.

ALL SPORTS TEAMS REGARDLESS OF THE LEAGUE OR THE COUNTRY THEY ALL  NEED TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACTS AND DO THE BACKGROUND CHECKS WITH ONE ON ONE INTERVIEWS WHERE IT IS NECESSARY.  A LOST DOES NOT HURT AS MUCH AS A MAJOR HIRING MISTAKE (EVEN IF THIS EMPLOYEE IS PROVEN INNOCENT), HIS RESUME TOTALLY SUCKED.

This from the King of Dupers. Played Connecticut like a violin leading the state to believe he was moving the team for Foxboro. On the last day, after the CT Legislature had already passed funding to build a stadium he pulled out. He had used CT to gain advantage with Massachusett's financiers. Super Duper.

@goomba He didn't have a record! He failed a drug test once...

Mhichil72
Mhichil72

@goomba Really no need for a PI, his offences were already well known. And he "failed" both tests that are routinely given at the draft combines. Including the one that 1/2 the teams subscribe to which labeled him (apparently correctly) as a possible sociopath.

@mr.rude73 That is a great comment.  I always say the NFL is saturated with steroid abuse.  Most people I say that too disagree.  How refreshing to see that someone else sees through the "show"

FredJOhnson
FredJOhnson

@mr.rude73 Yup, you hit it spot on!  The people willing to pay 10% of their annual salary for football tickets are the ones that perpetuate this.  By paying brutish thugs millions of dollars a year, you elevate them up onto a pedestal... not thinking about where they come from or who they really are... how do you THINK a guy that is conditioned for over half his life to brutally maul and hurt other people will act?  That's right.. they are emotional and physical.  Just look up the crime rates of professional athletes.. over 40% of the NFL was arrested in 2010 and 50% of the NBA have criminal records...

STOP GIVING THESE CRIMINALS YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!!

FredJOhnson
FredJOhnson

@galestorm2014 and if you are a fan then YOU perpetuate it.  YOU want the biggest baddest mofos on your team so you can win a super bowl.  YOU pay for tickets and paraphernalia that support these thugs.  STOP THE MADNESS!

@KeithDiggs Hernandez was a productive player in college but slipped way down in the draft. Do you know why? Because the other teams knew he was trouble, he had already been investigated in relation to 2 shootings before the draft. So Kraft IS responsible.

@Mhichil72 @KeithDiggs ok dodo...Kraft isn't responsible. He isn't friends with Hernandez nor do they run in the same circles. Keith is right - you and tv1948 are a couple of Occupy haters -

@Mhichil72 @KeithDiggs Really?  Because I could have sworn that Hernandez got into trouble BEFORE Kraft drafted him - making Hernandez responsible for his OWN actions.
