The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed centerman Valtteri Filppula to a five-year deal, according to multiple reports. The deal is reported to be worth $5 million a year.

Filppula, 29, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Detroit Red Wings. He is coming off a season in which he scored nine goals in 41 games. Filppula had his best season in 2011-12, when he totaled 66 points (23 goals, 43 assists) in 81 games.

The Finnish centerman will replace Vincent Lecavalier, who signed a five-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

As a Detroit fan, good riddance . Always billed as "potential star" . How many years did we have to wait and nothing occurred. Always floated and not very aggressive. Most of his goals were of low impact. Never one to score in critical situations.
