Canadiens sign Danny Briere to two-year deal
Financial terms were not disclosed. The remainder of Briere’s eight-year, $52 million contract was bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers last month. He was paid $3.3 million for the two years that were left on his contract.
NHL teams cannot sign free-agents them until noon on Friday, but Briere can be signed immediately because of the buyout.
Briere reportedly had narrowed down his choices to the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins and the Nashville Predators.
Briere, 35, had six goals and 10 assists last season with the Flyers, where he spent the last six seasons. In 15 NHL seasons, Briere has 286 goals and 373 assists.
