The Charlotte Bobcats and free-agent big man Al Jefferson have agreed to a three-year deal estimated at $41 million, ESPN’s Marc Stein reports. Jefferson can opt out of his deal with the Bobcats after the second year of his three-year deal.

According to Stein, Jefferson was initially waiting until Dwight Howard signed before making a decision about his own free agency. The Bobcats swooped in and signed Jefferson to a deal early Thursday morning.

The Utah Jazz decided to let Jefferson test free agency after Jefferson completed his five year, $65 million extension he signed while he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jefferson averaged 17.8 points on 49.4 percent shooting and 9.8 rebounds-per-game last season with the Jazz.
