Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Ben Zobrist on Sunday, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.

The Tigers and Rays were warned by home plate umpire Vic Carapazza after Porcello hit Zobrist with a pitch in the first inning of Sunday’s game. The incident occurred a day after Miguel Cabrera yelled at the Rays dugout after closer Fernando Rodney struck him out in the 10th inning. Rodney threw an in-tight-and-up pitch to back Cabrera off the plate during the at-bat.

This is a CRAP suspension. Yes he hit him intentionally, ansd maybe deserved to be suspend. The problem is MLB has no consistency when handing out these suspension. Kennedy only gets 10 games for throwing at the head of an opposing pitcher. Grienke gets nothing for 3 straight pitchers attempting to hit, or hitting an opponent. MLB needs to get  a specific penalty for each infraction. First time you intentionally throw at an opponent it's 6 games. Second time it is 12, third 18 and so on. That will be the only way to stop this. Inconsistent application of penalties will NOT WORK.

Who determined there was intent? There wasn't even a warning issued until after the HBP -- it was deemed intentional because a Tiger had been hit the night before? Did Rodney get suspended for that one?

I swear, some of these babies just need to take up golf...

an "in-tight-and-up" pitch, known by everyone else on the planet as "high and inside"
