The Knicks have expressed interest in pursing a deal with Bucks guard Monta Ellis, sources told CBSSports.com.

Ellis just opted out of a deal that would have paid him $11 million in Milwaukee, and on paper the Knicks don’t have the kind of money needed to attain the 27-year-old guard. New York can only offer the $3.2 million mid-level exception.

But Ellis and his agent could view this as an opportunity to be a part of a contender.

MAHONEY: Buyer beware – Monta Ellis, other risky free agents

From CBSSports.com:

But Ellis, 27, and his Washington, D.C.-based agent, Jeff Fried, are known to be willing to compromise in order to sign with a contending team. And the Knicks, who face the free-agent loss of sixth man of the year J.R. Smith, would provide ample opportunity for Ellis to showcase his scoring prowess deep into the playoffs.

Along with the Knicks, the Bulls, Spurs, Nuggets and Suns have also expressed interest in Ellis, who averaged 19.2 points per game last season with the Bucks.

If Monta seriously would turn down 8mil/year if not more to play for the Knicks, he's a moron or got someone giving him really bad advice.  A team with no defense that loves to run and chuck up shots is not going to be competitive in this years east, it's just too top heavy.  That's cute though, he sees other guys who hate guarding pick and rolls, are allergic to the paint, and thinks hey these guys are just like me, I'd fit perfect here.  Knicks need to understand it's about building a system and getting players who fit it, not throwing things at the wall randomly and seeing what sticks.

of course they would because in the Knick's world it makes perfect sense to add Ellis and Bargnani.

Ellis is a too small SG and Bargnani is a 7-footer who rebounds like a 6-footer.  Both are volume shooters who play bad defense - gambling in the case of Ellis and none for Bargnani.

Because they need another ball hog? Melo is the Blackhole for a reason.  The ball doesn't come back to other players, no matter how good they are at shooting.

Also the fact that out of Bulls/Spurs/Nuggets, he thinks the Knicks are the best shot at getting him a ring is absurd.
