New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is looking for a long-term deal. The team is confident on delivering and expects to sign him before the team’s training camp opens, reports ESPN.com.

Cruz is under contract this year after he signed a one-year, $2.879 million deal last month. The Giants are scheduled to open training camp July 26 at the Timex Performance Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

ESPN.com’s Chris Mortensen said last week that he’d be “shocked” if no deal was in place before camp, and that a deal could go down within the “next ten days.”

“Everybody I’ve spoken to expects that deal to absolutely get done,” Mortensen said on ESPN Monday. “To a 100 percent degree of certainty, that Victor Cruz will have a new contract by the time the Giants open training camp.”

Cruz is believed to be seeking at least $15 million in guarantees and around $9 million per season. Cruz had 168 receptions for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns the past two seasons.

A few weeks ago, I was informed by poster jojomogir that the Giants' GM Reese is too smart to pay more than $8 Million per year to Cruz.  We'll see how accurate, or inaccurate that jojomogir was after the contract signing.  Jojomogir also told me that Hakeem Nicks (the Giants' "deep threat" - with a lower career YPC than Cruz) is more valuable, and that I don't understand the NFL.  If the Cruz contract is signed, then I'm SURE that jojomogir will retract his idiotic and inaccurate remarks.  Hope springs eternal.

Thankfully!! I was a little nervous about Reese letting him go; Eli is good but he desperately needs a go to receiver.

Cruz is a better investment than China doll Nicks.
