Mavericks, Celtics reportedly discussing Rajon Rondo trade
The Dallas Mavericks have engaged in trade talks with the Boston Celtics to acquire point guard Rajon Rondo, according to DallasBasketball.com.
The Celtics have expressed interest in Shane Larkin, a point guard who the Mavs selected with the 18th pick in Thursday’s draft, and would require the Mavs to take multiple contracts off their books, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Boston managed to unload Jason Terry along with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in the trade with the Nets, but still has long-term commitments to Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee.
But talks have “gone nowhere,” according to ESPN’s Marc Stein, because Boston has little interest in Dallas players outside of Dirk Nowitzki.
And any trade that would require the Mavs to take back large chunks of salary could potentially preclude them from making a run at free agent Dwight Howard.
Mavs would love having Rajon Rondo to chase Dwight Howard, but Boston needs Dallas to take multiple contracts off its books, sources say.—

Mavs: We're interested in Rondo. Celts: We want Dirk. So: More teams gotta jump in or Boston gotta budge for meaningful talks to take place—

Dallas is also considering pursuing restricted free agent Kings guard Tyreke Evans and unrestricted free agent Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings.
