Former New York Jets quarterback Erik Ainge isn’t a big fan of Mark Sanchez, telling a New York newspaper that he saved Sanchez from an embarrassing episode when he smashed the cell phone of a female partygoer who took pictures of Sanchez streaking several years ago.

Ainge, who played with the Jets from 2008 to 2010, said Sanchez paid for the damages to the phone.

“There were numerous times when things would happen, when things would go down, articles of clothing would be removed,” Ainge told Metro. “Mark is goofy. He played truth or dare. He was kind of awkward around girls, so he needed other people around him to help him out. I was good at that — there were other guys who were good with that. So we’d help him out and talk him through his awkwardness. It happened to him with the 17-year old who said she wasn’t 17. Now the butt video and there’s been several other issues just like that, but he’s always had wingmen.”

Ainge said Sanchez’s off-field behavior is questionable and that he is too nice for his own good.

HOT CLICKS: Sanchez’s “Butt Video”

“He’s dumb about it. He’s stupid while being stupid. You have to be smart while being stupid, and he’s dumb while being dumb. Look at the butt video. He needs someone he trusts there when Mark wants to go streaking through his own condo.”

The kid is missing something, whether it's confidence or basic intelligence I have no idea but his problem isn't physical that we know. What is also odd is how the Jets have remained committed to Sanchez thru all this. There had to have been trade ops to hapless celler dwellers like the Cards, Buffalo, KC and the other ne'r do wells. What kept him in New York, it's not as if he has had a great seasons intermixed with less than stellar years, encouraging an OC to tweak this or that to get him back in the right direction. And then the poison locker room, player division, long past time for the Jets to fire Buddy's Boy, dump Sanchez and rebuild. FWIT, The message that drafting a former SC quarterback is exactly the wrong thing to do, Heismen's be damned seems to have been lost on GM's. Guys, it's was the system, not the guy behind center, and yes Virginia, Barkley will fall on in axx in Philly as have Leinart, Palmer, Sanchez.....in their respective places, .the list goes on and on

It sounds like some of Sanchez's off field problems would go away if he had a padlock on his belt...

So that rape that supposedly didn't happen when he was at USC probably did?

Yeah, this might be true about Sanchez, but I would rather not hear it from some scrub.

Who is Eric Ainge? I've never heard of him so why would I or anybody else care what he has to say about anything even remotely related to football?

...this from the former backup QB who was suspended for steroids and then ended up in rehab after that.  You have to be smart while being stupid??

Ainge had to take the phone or Sanchez would have fumbled it.

Sanchez is an ignorant fool.

Matt Leinart was so damned dumb, he left evidence of his misdeeds, a very pregnant lady Basketballer, and a bouncing little boy. Maybe Sanchez was saved by infertility issues

@6marK6 Why? 'Scrubs' can't offer any insight? Do you only consult pro-bowlers for their take on any given subject? Obviously the guy hung out with Sanchez.

@RandyPeters Who is 'Randy Peters'? I've never heard of him so why would I or anybody else care what he has to say about anything even remotely related to anything?

@RandyPeters Amazingly dumb Randy, no offense. This isn't remotely related to football, & Ainge apparently was there for plenty of OFF-FIELD Sanchez shenanigans. Ainge is making a point that Sanchez is amazingly dumb off the field, which is pretty pertinent if you're the QB of one of the two Big Apple teams. Plus, Ainge is the nephew of Danny Ainge, so he's been around big-time sports (& off-field issues) all his life...

Hola
Hola

@Jean Between Tebow and Sanchez, Sanchez is a better option.

@Hola @Jean You say that like it means much?  As Beavis and Butt-head once said: You  shouldn't get too many chances to SUCK!

@Hola @Jean  And yet now Tebow will likely be the one on a playoff team...

@pandah462 @Mel @Hola @Jean  So he's a tight end on a playoff team. Remind me again what other position Sanchez is capable of playing, because he's not so great a qb....Butt fumble anyone?

@Mel @Hola @Jean Tebow will be on a team with a TE opening, so now may be the time for a position change...

@Mel @Hola @Jean And still riding pine.  Ok, or Tebowing on the sideline.  Either way, he won't be playing.

@Mel @Hola @Jean And Tracy McGrady just made it to the finals. That means hes a really good player, right?

@nyljsf2 Good one.  You told me.  And you are correct to a certain degree.  I don't have a job.  I own the company.
