Aaron Hernandez denied bail, will remain in jail

NFL

Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was denied bail on Thursday afternoon, a day after he was charged with first-degree murder and five other gun-related charges in a case following the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

Lloyd, a semipro football player, was found with bullet holes to the head and chest about a mile away from Hernandez’s home on June 17. On Wednesday, Hernandez was arrested and arraigned and charged with six counts: murder of the first degree, one count of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possession of a large capacity firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm without a valid ID card, according to NFL.com.

McCANN: Legal analysis of Hernandez case

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all of the charges; his defense claimed the prosecution’s case was based on circumstantial evidence that is “not strong.” Hernandez was ordered to be held without bail at the Bristol County House of Correction and Jail and will have a probable cause hearing in court on July 24.

He is also being investigated for his potential role in a double-homicide in 2012.

The Patriots, who released Hernandez from the team on Wednesday, issued the following statement about the case:

“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

He is no doubt guilty but how does a bullet casing end up in the car?  Perhaps they shot him from inside the car?

Yeah they have a weak circumstantial case allright: Video of Hernandez with a gun that now can not be found. Hernandez DNA at the murder site (on gum). Hernandez destroying his video system and cell phone, Hernandez hiring a cleaning service the day of the murder. Hernandez rental car at the murder site. And on and on. I hate to tell his lawyer, this isn't going to be an OJ where if the OJ jurors saw video of OJ murdering his wife they'd still say "Not Guilty".

What a waste. This guy has thrown away so much. And 'someone' murdered Odin Lloyd. Don't forget that loss. His life was taken from him. What a waste.

Aaron, you should probably make yourself receptive to joining one of the various prison gangs that will be operating in your "living space." It will be a fun way to pass the next 40 to 50 years. You wanted to be a gangsta, well, you got it.

@SandersonKramer  Don't forget a shell casing they found in the rental that he returned that matches shell casings found at the scene...looks like an open and shut case, now he's being investigated for possible involvement in a double homicide in Boston last year...this guy wasn't a football player he was a sociopathic gangster getting paid to play tight end.

@SandersonKramer Yeah, some people want to play Devil's Advocate and pretend that Hernandez is going to walk because there is no witness or murder weapon. Most cases are circumstantial. This case is open and shut, you don't need the gun, you can connect Hernandez to it none the less and his destruction of evidence surrounding the case will end up being the nail in the coffin. This punk ain't walking.

@Rickapolis The only potential problem there is, was Lloyd involved in the double homicide that Hernandez is being linked to? If so, it is a case of one really bad dude knocking off another bad dude.
