A day after Brian Cashman told Alex Rodriguez to “shut the (expletive) up,” about providing updates on his rehabilitation process, Rodriguez released a statement to explain his tweet. In a statement released on Wednesday, Rodriguez said it was “pure excitement” that led him to provide an update of his rehabilitation process.

Rodriguez, who joined Twitter on May 31 under the handle @AROD, drew the ire of GM Brian Cashman after A-Rod tweeted a positive prognosis from his doctor regarding his hip rehabilitation process. Cashman said the team doctors haven’t cleared Rodriguez to play in games and there’s a “chain of command” when players return from injury.

A-Rod’s statement:

“I will continue to work hard until my efforts get me back in pinstripes and help my team win,” Rodriguez said in a statement released by his publicist Wednesday. “The tweet was pure excitement about Dr. Kelly’s prognosis.”

Doesn't sound like "firing back" at all. What a waste of space and time. Cashman is in the wrong here ... throwing A-Rod under the media bus once again.

If I were A-Rod, I would have responded to that idiot Cashman accordingly. Someone tells you to STFU and you just put your tail between your legs and come up with this pathetic "... I will continue to play hard..." response. This was A-Rod's only chance to put that moron in his place and have the fans on his side. Now there is no backing up from the brown nose remarks.

@kamaliel yes it is always a good idea to tell your boss off. I think you should give it a go in the morning.

@kamaliel you take the high road and move on, or you jump  in it and make this a juvenile pissing match.  A-Rod did  the right thing, and Cashman comes across yet again as pompous arse. Cashman is your typical d-bag big talker, until they are right in front of you.

@kamaliel @piizzadude Sorry, but no one that thinks 'specially' is a word makes $25 mil a year. More like $25 K. Another anonymous internet tough guy...
