Celtics call off press conference, reschedule for Monday
It’s not clear why the conference was called off or what the conference originally pertained to.
Earlier this week, it was reported that president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers would address the future of the team.
The proposed trade between Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers hit a snag Thursday, when NBA commissioner David Stern said the NBA would likely nix a deal that had Rivers and forward Kevin Garnett going to the Clippers in exchange for center DeAndre Jordan and two first-round draft picks.
“I would say that if we know that what the parties really wanted to do is one [trade] and they’re going to break it into two for the purposes of trying to avoid the restrictions that the collective bargaining agreement places on it, we know how to deal with that as well,” Stern told ESPN Radio on Thursday.
ESPN.com reported that Clippers have shifted their strategy to acquiring Rivers alone and then hopes that any subsequent trade agreement they make for Garnett will be approved by the league as a separate transaction and not contingent on the hiring of Rivers.
