NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson said Tuesday morning in his first interview since being released from a Florida jail a day earlier that he knows some people may believe he doesn’t deserve a second chance, but he wants to “finish my career off the right way.”

Speaking on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Johnson, 35, came forward about his actions in a courtroom last week that led to a rather impromptu 30 day jail sentence. He was released after serving seven days.

Johnson had initially been in court to serve a probation hearing, but received the additional sentence as the hearing was wrapping up after he slapped his attorney on the backside, prompting some people in the court room to laugh out loud.

He said in retrospect that the additional sentence handed down by Broward County Judge Kathleen McHugh forced him to do something he’s been trying to do for a while:

“I’ve learned my lesson, especially over those past seven days. I think everyone deserves a second chance. Many would say I might not deserve it. I would like to finish my career off the right way. I think that Judge McHugh was able to get me do something many people have tried to get me to do for a long time: slow down, just at life in general. She was able to get me to do that, maybe not in the best circumstances for those on the outside but I see being able to sit down and think about life and where I’m going from this point was probably on one of the best things that could happen to me right now.”

A six-time Pro Bowler, Johnson was cut by the Miami Dolphins the day after he was arrested for battery charges stemming from an incident last summer in which he headbutted his wife. He said Tuesday morning on GMA that he would “love to grace the football field one more time and to help some team.”

"Grace the football field..."  Is that what you called your playing?  Personally, any "man", if that is what you call yourself does not abuse his wife or girlfriend let alone headbutt her like you were in a bar brawl from a cheap novel.  And now that your name is once again Johnson, are we supposed to like you more?  Whatever happened to "Chad Ochocinco" the man who decided his family name was not good enough and had to make a pop star of himself by changing it, since he is not that talented a receiver.  Simply said: You are done Mr. Johnson/Ochocinco/Johnson and if a team does give you another shot, considering your recent past failures, I am sure their fans will let them know about it...Just do everyone a favor and stay out of the game.

The Patriots already gave him a 2nd chance - than the dolphins gave him a third chance but hey Rex and the jets are probably dumb enough to give him a 4th chance

It takes jail to know it is not alright to head butt your wife? How bout knowing the difference between right and wrong while growing up? How do these guys make it in any profesion? Kudos to the Dolphins for releasing him and shame on any team signing him whether he can play or not!

Naturally Chad wants to "grace the football field one more time." The sucker's broke; just like his BFF Terrell and AI.

I got a funny feeling (call it a hunch) that whether he gets another chance to play football again or not, he will be spending more time in jail.  He comes across as unintelligent, and appears broke, too.   Not a good combination.  Chad Eight Five, you should have put some of that money you earned all those years as a Bengal in a savings account in the bank.  Because nothing is better than money in the bank.

How many second chances do you get? This guy is more like a cat, with nine lives.

Overzealous Judge.  You mean with Lindsey Lohan in&out of courtrooms&never having to do any time and Johnson slaps his attorneys arse, he gets jail time?  No wonder this country keeps falling

@ProfessorGriff

Yeah it's the judge's fault. Chad was arrested in the first place because he's such a credit to mankind.
