Wide receiver Donald Driver, who retired earlier this offseason rather than suit up for a team other than the Green Bay Packers, said he’d be open to returning to play for the Packers during the season if they came calling.

“I think the thing is, if you have the itch to continue to play, then it doesn’t matter who you play for, because that’s what you want to do,” Driver said at a press conference before his sixth annual charity softball game, according to Fox Sports Wisconsin.

“You just want to play the game. I love the game, but I only love one team. When you love the game, you’ll play for anybody. Anybody who offers you something, you’re willing to step on the field and play for them.

“I decided that I love one team. But I do love the game. At the end of the day, if I get that itch, it would only be for the green and gold.”

The 38-year-old Driver has received interest from other teams, including the rival Minnesota Vikings. But he said he was comfortable calling it a career after 14 seasons in Green Bay.

“I talked to so many different guys and every guy that I’ve talked to said they wish they never went to another team,” Driver said. “They always wished they would’ve retired with that team that they played 10, 11, 12 years for.”

Driver’s role decreased significantly over the past two years. He went from starting 15 games in 2001 to just one game last year. He caught only eight passes for 77 yards last season.

Great guy but I'm betting they won't miss eight catches for 77 yards.

An ultimate warrior who fully deserves his retirement.  Donald, don't come out of retirement and end up a cripple.  You never had any history of concussions, you are healthy and can run around with your kids, and you don't have any broken bones or arthritis because of your 14 seasons.  You're not going to blow a hole in your chest and leave your brain to the scientific community to study PTSD.  Count yourself lucky with a great family and a supportive community.  Good luck to you!

Note to Donald Driver; Don't pull a Favre -stay retired.

The fact of the matter is that the Packers are not going to call because they no longer want you on the team. It's the ultimate brushoff.

@NeoSmith He played fourteen (14) years in the NFL. Your assumptions about him being concussion and arthritis free are BIG assumptions and, I'm afraid, probably unjustified. I hope you're right about his physical condition but I strongly suspect that you're not. Just sayin'.
