Maurice Cheeks agreed to become the next head coach of the Detroit Pistons on Monday, reports ESPN.com.

Cheeks replaces Lawrence Frank, who the Pistons fired in April after two seasons with the organization. Frank went just 54-94 in two seasons with Detroit, including a 29-53 record this season. The team has missed the playoffs each of the past four seasons.

Cheeks was previously the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers. In each of his last six seasons as a head coach, he has guided his teams to a .500 record or below. He has a 284-286 career record as a coach, and his teams have never advanced past the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

GOLLIVER: How attractive is each coaching vacancy?

Cheeks had been an assistant with the Oklahoma City Thunder since the 2009 season.

Come on mo cheeks, is that really the best we can get. Karl or shaw or hollins , I'd rather see Lindsey hunter be our coach and he sucks. Welcome to two more years of misery. Glad we hired Phil Jackson for advice, whats next draft a center?
