The New York Jets have invited tight end Kellen Winslow to a tryout at minicamp this week, according to multiple reports.

The 29-year-old, who has 438 receptions and 4,848 receiving yards in his eight-year career, played just one game for the New England Patriots last season.

Winslow posted three straight seasons with at least 66 receptions and 730 yards with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11. He played his first four years in Cleveland after being selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2004 draft out of the University of Miami.

NFL Network’s Albert Breer and ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news after Winslow tweeted “J-E-T-S” on Saturday afternoon.

The Jets’ starting tight end from the last four years, Dustin Keller, signed with the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

Third-year pro Jeff Cumberland and second-year pro Konrad Reuland are the only tight ends with significant experience on the team’s current roster.

yeah, this guy fell off the side of the earth. a lot of talk but he used to put up pretty dank numbers to back it up. but if you cant make it as a tight end with the pats...

seahawks said no thanks when he came to camp, knee so bad it was bone on bone.  could not practice because of knee or just lazy.  unfortunately, the apple fell under the tree, but rolled down a hill into the drain.

Winslow seems to have an often repeated story - all the physical tools but not all the mental ones.
