NBA Draft: Sergey Karasev may have first-round guarantee
Sergey Karasev, one of the top international players in the NBA draft, will not work out privately for NBA teams, creating speculation he has a first-round guarantee, reports Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Karasev is headed back to Moscow until the draft, meaning teams won’t be able to get a closer look at him. Though only 19 years old, Karasev is considered NBA-ready. He’s a 6-foot-7 small forward and played in Russia’s top professional league last season. His catch-and-shoot style should allow him to make an immediate impact.
SI.com’s Chris Mannix had Karasev going No. 23 in his Mock Draft 2.0.
Karasev would seemingly benefit from further exposure. As an international prospect, he’s less well known than the top American college players. His decision to head back to Russia rather than work out for teams is considered unusual. The most plausible explanation is that a team in the late first round guaranteed it would pick him if he’s available.
