Ravens sign linebacker Daryl Smith to one-year deal
Smith, 31, played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the past nine seasons and is the franchise’s all-time leading tackler. Smith made 1,096 tackles in 126 games for the Jaguars after he was picked in the second round of the 2004 draft. He missed most of last season with a groin injury.
The Ravens need help at inside linebacker following Rolando McClain‘s retirement and rookie Arthur Brown‘s hernia surgery. Starter Jameel McClain is awaiting clearance to return from a spinal cord injury.
More from the Times-Union:
The Jaguars didn’t publicly announce they weren’t re-signing Smith once he entered the free agent market, but it became obvious the team was moving in a younger direction at the linebacker position. Smith turned 32 in mid-March.
Smith joins veterans Rashean Mathis, Greg Jones and Montell Owens as long-time Jaguars who won’t be back with the team this year.
