Alabama sophomore forward Devonta Pollard was charged in the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl in Mississippi, reports WTOK, a Meridan, Miss. television station.

Last month Pollard’s mother, Jesse Mae Pollard, also was charged with kidnapping. On Tuesday, two other people were charged in connection with the kidnapping of Jashayla Hopson.

According to the report, Hopson was taken from an elementary school April 30. She turned up on a rural county road, unharmed, the next day. The child was apparently taken out of a vehicle there. She then knocked on the door of a residence and the homeowner called police.

Police say the kidnapping scheme was devised because of a land dispute Pollard’s mother had with Hopson’s mother.

Hopson’s father reportedly received a text message that read: “don’t call the police I will call you later if you call the police u wont see her again.”

Pollard, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds during his freshman season with Alabama.
