Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl is “unsettled” by general manager Masai Ujiri’s departure, ESPN Los Angeles’ Ramona Shelburne reported Sunday. It has thrown his immediate status with the Nuggets somewhat in doubt, as the Clippers and Nuggets have had initial, internal conversations about Karl in relation to the Clippers’ head coaching job.

Shelburne reported Karl’s status with the Nuggets has changed dramatically after the team’s first-round playoff exit, even after being named the NBA Coach of the Year. The Nuggets let Ujiri walk to the Toronto Raptors for a five-year, $15 million deal. And according to Shelburne, Karl could enter next season — his last season under contract — on the hot seat, even after Denver’s  57-win regular season.

The Clippers meanwhile, are looking for a replacement for Vinny Del Negro, who they let go on May 21. The team is reportedly looking to attract a “big name,” and Karl would fit the bill. They have already had preliminary discussions with former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott, Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw, former Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry, and Jeff Van Gundy, according to reports.

Aside from finding a new head coach, the Clippers are also looking to re-sign All-Star point guard Chris Paul, who becomes a free agent July 1. Any coach they choose will likely have to have his stamp of approval.

its not who CLIPPERS want. its who CHRIS PAUL wants.

that said i think CLIPPERS would do well to have up tempo pace the NUGGETS have.

He is a poor man's Don Nelson. Will keep you in the playoffs, but not much more. All of these ding-dongs coming to his support are bragging about what he did over twenty years ago. The Nuggets were loaded this year and lost early, as usual. I think you look for someone else. This move seems lateral.

I think they should get rid of Chris Paul and get some good players and rebuild their roster with a good coach.

Karl has done a lot with a little throughout his career. He's a good coach.

@6marK6 It's cool dude. No better way to announce you were born in the 90s than by completely ignoring facts that happened before you were 12. Karl has been a great coach for a long, long time.

@6marK6 If it weren't for a guy named Michael Jordan George Karl would have an NBA title.  Something Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, and Patrick Ewing have in common (among others).

@6marK6 Are you forgetting that he got there with Seattle?  The rest of his teams didn't have enough talent to get there.

@InternetGrinder @6marK6 Ummm, since your memory is so tight, do you recall he was also the seattle coach who lost in the FIRST ROUND TO AN 8 SEED!

@riley8 @6marK6 Really, one player kept those guys from winning a ring 20 years ago? Gee, I thought you needed a coach and five on the floor. Thanks for simplifying it.

@BrownLanet @6marK6 So your defense of him is that twenty years ago he got a Western conference team to the Finals? Wow, I change my mind!!!
