Just a year and a half ago, Tim Tebow led the Denver Broncos to a stunning playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, who at the time had the league’s top-ranked defense.

Now a free-agent searching for an NFL job, Tebow’s camp believes he has played his last down in the league, because of media attention and having skills that don’t equate to being an NFL quarterback, according to an article in the June issue of ESPN The Magazine.

Tebow was traded to the New York Jets last offseason, but didn’t contribute much in his one season in New York. The team released him last month.

More from ESPN.com:

Just 18 months removed from a stunning playoff win over the Steelers, Tebow has been written off by NFL teams in large part due to his unwillingness to change positions. “He’s not a quarterback,” said one NFC scout. “When you look at his run two years ago, when you watch the tape and break it down, he wasn’t really doing anything that impressive. He’s a tough guy, a great leader, a great person. But he isn’t a good enough quarterback to have all the distractions that come with him.”

Tebow made the mistake of coming out against the murder via abortion of millions of kids each year.  After that, the Jews and liberals were never going to let him play in the NFL.

Tebow just signed with the Patriots....Nice reporting , Loser

Part of Tebow's problem was when coaches decided he needed to change his throwing style.  Bernie Kosar didn't have a classic style but he was left alone.  People forget the 300 yd passing games while Tebow was at Florida.  Now I admit that his throwing motion wasn't classic and I wondered if it would work in the NFL but he wasn't give a chance to find out.  Maybe the motion was too long giving NFL DBs too much time to react but SEC DBs couldn't get the job done.  I hate to see him out of football without going with his natural throwing motion to see if he could play QB at that level because the league needs more men like him in it.

And we remember three quarterbacks who couldn't play in the NFL - Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon! All went to Canada and the CFL. All won the Grey Cup for their teams, and all came back to the US to play NFL football. The proving ground of the NFL proves nothing, folks

It's okay. He can now become a preacher for Jesus Christ, which is all he was trying to do in the NFL. He'll make little bits of money traveling the country, speaking at churches, religious schools, motivational speaker events, etc.

forget about this guy already .. that's what is wrong with the culture, a lot of people cannot move on .. Look he was a great College Player, but that was it .. It is nobody's fault .. He just is not an NFL Player as with hundreds of great college players that get cut year after year in training camps.. In life the idea is to move forward , if you cannot move on , than I am sure a Jim Tressel Sweater vest is waiting for you somewhere in time !!

All you Tebow fans out there need to realize..just because you are great in college doesnt mean you are good enough for the NFL....there are tons of Heisman winners who never did squat in the pros...there are national champion QBs who never even made an NFL roster....Tebow is not good enough to play QB in the NFL....all the Tebowites scream, What about with Denver?  Well, what I remember of that season was a lot of games that Tebow couldnt do squat in, but Denvers D kept them in the game, and then Tebow would lead them on one good drive...and suddenly...its a miracle...Teboow did it....Uh NO , those were games they would have gotten blown out of if it werent for the defense...and that one playoff win against an injury riddled Pittsburgh team...pure fluke....Do any of you remember what happened the following week against the Patriots?  They were totally ready for Tebows predictable game plan...and it was a blowout....Tebow just doesnt have it.....get used to the idea....

Somehow I remember all the NFL Gurus saying the same think about Doug Flutie.  As I remember he didn't turn out too bad now did he?  Given a chance Teabow will succeed in the NFL.

So, they want him to play in the NFL, just at another position, and he has no interest?  So much for that leadership and work ethic, sounds more like a spoiled boy to me...

Tebow may not be the best QB ever but the Jets basically hurt him intentionally by taking him and putting him on the bench. True, he is no Luck but he should have been at least give a fair shot on this team.  Ryan was more worried about him doing well then his failure.  To me, it was unfair to Tebow and to Jets fans.

But if he were to all of a sudden claim he was gay or bisexual teams would be falling all over themselves to sign him.

All of you who think Tebow is being run out of football because of his religious beliefs are nuts. Teams will hire anyone, ANYONE, if they can play football, including rapists (i.e., Roethlisberger), possible murders (i.e., Ray Lewis), and animal torturers (i.e., Mike Vick).

The people that hate Tebow, hate him too much. The people that love Tebow, love him too much. I think he is a good person. I don't think he is an NFL starter. To me, he has value for your team holding a clipboard, if you can get him on the cheap. But believe me, if an NFL team thought they could win with him as a starter, they would sign him. Teams just don't see the consistency needed in a starter. I will admit that he had some wonderful moments in Denver. HOWEVER, more often than not, he looked horrible with Denver and New York. Great college QB.

What does God have to do with football?  Don't Christians believe that God will put you where he wants you?  Perhaps God has a new plan for Tebow.  He gave Tebow the athletic gift to build an audience and now he must move on to the next phase of doing the good lord's work.

The whole Tebow thing is all about sports gambling, religion, and who controls the media. Do your research! he was robbed of two Heisman's at Florida for his religious convictions. The guy is a stud...he is a  Conservative Christian stud and the powers that control sports, the media, and ESPN do not want him and his ideals in the limelight. Vegas was pissed for what he did at Denver and so was the NFL as well. This dudes game is unpredictable and it IS NOT what sports gambling wants. Tim my hats off to you. I know the kind of athlete you are and always will appreciate your accomplishments. Thanks for exposing these clowns!

@Vesuvius1313 "He wasn't given a chance to find out?"  What do you call being on a roster for 3 years?  I don't know why this is so complicated for so many people.  He won a handful of games and then the NFL realized his game was a limited gimmick.  When you can't complete 50% of your passes you don't have a future in the NFL.  When you're not a threat to throw, defenses don't respect your threat to run.

In addition to not being able to throw in the NFL, it turns out Tebow has some sort of inability to remember a play-call from the sidelines to the huddle.  He couldn't audible.  He couldn't read defenses.

Finally, if you pay attention, you'd notice there are hundreds of upstanding, christian players in the NFL if that's what you need to enjoy the league.  I agree Tebow seems like a great young man.  Great leader, great teammate.  Great role model.  But if all that is true, there is only one reason that he's unemployed-he's not good.

@JanetA.Davies

I gotta one better than that. A guy that was a fair passer, couldn't outrun an armadillo, and as best as I can remember, was at one time cited as "not having enough smarts to be an NFL QB".

I've always wondered if that man thought about all those negative slams as he was being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. That may be the very thing running through that bald headed, beer bellied mind when you see Terry Bradshaw smiling on television.

I guess the most critical criteria to be an NFL QB is to be self centered, stay in trouble with the law and the league, and pout a lot when they don't get their way. That's not Tebow. I thought he showed he had the stuff needed, considering when that Denver's O-line was awful until Manning got his mega million $ deal. As for the Jets, that says it all. Put him behind a good offensive line, and with decent playmakers so he's not having to do it all himself. If he doesn't make it then, then maybe he ain't got it. Keep in mind, he did get Denver in the playoffs. If I remember, Denver was all but mathematically out of contention until Tebow took over as QB.

matt37
matt37

@JanetA.Davies There is an exception to every rule.  There is a reason that even the CFL hasn't offered Tebow a starting job.  Most QBs that got their start in the CFL were originally turned away from the NFL because they were too small, didn't have a big enough arm, etc.  What they DID already have was accuracy, good decision making, qb-intelligence, etc.  Tebow has none of those things and he's not going to learn them in a league that throws even more than the NFL.

And what constitutes "a chance" in the NFL?  Is 3 seasons on an NFL roster not "a chance?"

matt37

@dennis26 Doug Flutie could hit his receivers more than 42% of the time.  And he could read defenses.  Tebow can do neither.

WillWillis1
WillWillis1

@jefnvk So if the company you work for decides one day they want you do a completely different job, one that you have no interest in, and oh by the way carries as much if not more risk of physical injury, it's not your prerogative to say "thanks but no thanks" and go do something else for a living? You're "spoiled" for deciding your career and life is your own and not the company's?

matt37
matt37

@SalE And the other 31 NFL franchises?  Are they also in on this "intentional" conspiracy?

matt37
matt37

And for the record.....for all the knuckleheads that were crying about "Jason Collins is a hero because he's a queer and Tim Tebow is hated because he's a Christian....the US is going to hell!!!!"......The Jason Collins story is already over, out of the news, etc.

matt37
matt37

You mean because the team would benefit from the unwarranted media attention focusing on a something other than a player's skills?  If they wanted that, they could just sign Tebow.

matt37
matt37

@justthefaxpleez Yeah, that's why so many pro athletes have come out of the closet, because it's such a great personal PR maneuver.

matt37

@huamangino As I always say about this kid..........don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.  Or in this case, conspiracy theory.  And in the meantime, being Christian doesn't get in the way of the other 500 Christian players.

@6marK6 I don't have any problem with Tebow the person. Great guy, want him to marry your daughter etc. etc.

The backlash is because the sports media (chiefly ESPN) WILL NOT LET IT GO. This guy has been a non-story since the Jets buried him on the punt team and all the gator fans in florida or jesus fans in the USA can't change the fact that the guy is 3RD STRING ROSTER FILLER AT BEST. No team, understandably, wants the media circus surrounding a non-contributor. So why sign him?

Story over.

william.krause100

@ghettogrinch Yeah, Tebow was denied any publicity at all by the media.  Except that 13 guys picked ahead of him have made the Pro Bowl, and not one of them is 1/2 as famous as Tebow.

And apparently you believe that "Vegas" places the bets, rather than sets the line so that they collect a percentage no matter who wins.

Tell the truth:  are you on acid?

@ghettogrinch Zzzzzzzzzzz....huh?  Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were adding something of value to the conversation.  Blah, blah, blah, Jesus.  Blah, blah, blah, Christians are under attack.  Blah, blah, blah, same old story since they were throwing you guys to the lions.  Get over it.

hddh
hddh

@ghettogrinch Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that his throws wobble like a dead duck rather than spiral to their receivers. Nope that can't be it, it's gotta be Vegas and those anti-Christians and their big conspiracy to keep Tebow off the field

Good expose, but people prefer fantasy over reality.  Whether regarding government, industry, or sports, few people are aware of the powers behind the scenes.

Vesuvius1313

@matt37 @Vesuvius1313 You didn't read my point correctly.  What didn't get a chance was for Tebow to use is normal throwing motion that was so successful at Florida.  I have my doubts whether he can be a successful NFL QB with that throwing motion but as a coach I was sadden to see people completely changing his throwing motion months before he hit the NFL.  It is hard to overcome years of throwing the football accurately by completely changing your throwing motion in a few months.  I never radically changed how my QBs threw the ball but made small changes that helped them be more successful and I think this is what has been Tebow's problem.  He will need several years to develop his new throwing motion and it looks like NE may give him that chance.

You must have some inside info I don't have but I really doubt Tebow is incapable of audibling or remembering plays from the sideline.  However I agree he has not shown the physical ability to be an NFL QB and must find a spot IE FB or something similar if he is to have a career in the league.

I have never been a big Tebow fan but I hated to see what happened to him in NY as they seem to not live up to their own plans of using Tebow the way Denver did when they won 8 of 9 games.

matt37
matt37

@MalContent @JanetA.Davies You know one simple, critical difference?  More than one team thought Bradshaw was worth a chance.  No one things Tebow is worth a chance.  Conversation closed.

@MalContent @JanetA.Davies Give me a list of QB's who are always in trouble with the law.  Michael Vick had his problems, yes, but other than that, who?  Manning 1?  No.  Manning 2?  No.  Brady?  No.  Newton?  No.  Luck?  No.  Schaub?  No.  Garcia?  No.  Kapernick?  No.  Romo?  No.  Brees?  No.  RG3?  No.  Wilson?  No.  Rothlesburger?  OK.  One.

matt37

@brent.argue@dennis26LOL I don't know why everyone thinks Tebow could just slide right into another position anyways.  He's slower and/or 20-30lbs lighter than Vernon Davis, Jimmy Graham, Gronk, Witten, etc.  He's never played TE.  He'd be the slowest RB/FB in the NFL, except for some who come in only for goal line packages.  Remember the last several games of 2011....when the league knew he couldn't throw, they had no fear of his running.Look, every skill player in the NFL is a freak of nature-type-athlete.  The difference is, those other guys actually play their position.  If it was that easy to just move to a different position, don't you think more guys would do it?

KevinHickman
KevinHickman

@WillWillis1 @jefnvk If they were going to pay me hundreds of thousands or millions to play a game.....Id say , where do you want me to line up sir? Id be so thankful for the chance to play a game a few years and be set for life....but HE would rather be out of the game if he cant play QB? what a selfish loser

SSummers
SSummers

@WillWillis1

If I were one of the fortunate few who gets paid to play a game?  Yes, I'd be "spoiled" if I didn't want to move from the premier position.  50 guys on a team, and maybe three quarterbacks?  There are 32 teams, so *maybe* 96 QBs in all?  I don't know why your parents didn't tell you when you were younger, but not everyone gets to be an Astronaut when they grow up.

Tebow should suck it up and move to a position where he can put his large physical skills to work, rather than sulk that he, like so many before him, sucks at QB.

@matt37 I agree Matt, I agree.  Common sense flies out the window when Tebow is being discussed.  As though he is the only religious football player.

BrianCBock

@matt37 @huamangino Oh, I think being a Christian might have gotten in his way. But not because of prejudice or retribution, but because he focused so much time on his religion and forcing it on other people that he didn't spend the time building his football skills or his body to be able to accomplish them.

matt37
matt37

@kyyled5 @6marK6 Agree 99%.  I just can't blame the media....the media doesn't go 3 years running a "non-story" if no one is paying watching it, reading articles on it, commenting on it etc.  This is all our fault!

ghettogrinch
ghettogrinch

@hddh @ghettogrinch sir you are disillusioned about the real game of football with all these non-athletic quarterbacks getting all the undeserved glory. If this game was played the way it should be played your heros would be to slow and uncoordinated to make a difference. my point is these guys on defense are to fast and strong for the pocket game so the nfl has made defenses change their schemes to accommodate  the flat foot slow qb with a good arm. believe me sir if this were a real game Brady,Manning,Big Ben would all be in wheelchairs because they can't move and Tebow,Vick,Mcnabb,Mcnair, and Newton would be the heros. remember its a business, not a game.

@ghettogrinch @hddh Yeah look at all those super bowls atlanta won with Vick...

And Randall Cunningham with the Eagles and Vikes...

And Fran Tarkenton years ago...

Oh wait. They don't win because consistency wins.

matt37
matt37

By the way, Tebow's game IS predictable.  The last 5 games of his time as a starter were pretty consistent.  Under 45% completion.  more turnovers than tds, horrible on 3rd down, his running evaporated because teams knew he couldn't throw....and a 1-4 record.  Teams know what they'd be getting and they're not interested.

matt37
matt37

@ghettogrinch @hddh In the NFL, hitting your receivers consistently will ALWAYS be the number one criteria for a QB.  Being just fast doesn't cut it, because the NFL isn't college.  There's a reason Vick is garbage-he's not accurate and no matter how fast he is, eventually some almost-as-fast free safety will lay you out.  On the other hand, the new evolution of QB is here.  Kaepernick, RGIII, Wilson, Newton....those guys can run like the wind, but more important, they can throw with accuracy and make good decisions.  Tebow is not fast can't throw and can't read defenses.
