David Stern: ‘Serious review’ merited for Chris Andersen’s shove of Tyler Hansbrough
NBA Commissioner David Stern said Miami’s eccentric big man Chris Andersen’s shove of Indiana Pacers’ forward Tyler Hansbrough in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals should have resulted in an ejection. In an interview set to air on Sunday with NBC Sports Radio, Stern said there should be a “serious review” of Andersen’s shove of Hansbrough and to “stay tuned” regarding further discipline of Andersen.
Andersen was charged with a Flagrant 1 foul after Andersen used his body to force Hansbrough to the ground. Hansbrough picked himself up off the ground and was chest-to-chest with Andersen before Andersen shoved Hansbrough. The two were separated by officials and teammates.
Stern said he didn’t know what Andersen was doing on the play and he didn’t return “gracefully” to the bench following the altercation. Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals is set
“I do think he should have been ejected. I looked at the replays and, it seems to me, there was no immediate push or shove of him, he just hauled off and knocked down Tyler Hansbrough. I don’t know what he was doing. And then he pushed him. And then he did not go gracefully to the bench.”
