New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony thinks there is one missing piece that will get the team to their championship dreams and he wants the team to add another scorer in the offseason, reports the New York Post.

Anthony is currently rehabbing a small tear in his left shoulder that had been bothering him during the late part of the season.

Anthony, who led the NBA in scoring this season, has an opt-out clause in his contract after next season. The Knicks and Anthony can agree to an extension in mid-February under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement,

The Knicks scoring options besides Anthony were NBA Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith, who is a free agent and shot 33 percent in the playoffs, and Raymond Felton, who averaged 14 points a game during the postseason.

More from the Post:

Anthony originally lobbied to come to the Knicks in 2010-11 to play alongside All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, but injuries have haunted Stoudemire’s New York stint. Knicks officials said they believe Stoudemire may be put on a minutes restriction next season, too, limiting his impact.

General manager Glen Grunwald said last week the team will try to be “creative’’ and “aggressive’’ with the roster but said the major core would return.

It's just so easy to say he won't pass, but that shows how much people go on perception and never take the time to watch the games to know if your perception is true. 4 of the Knicks scorers were HORRIBLE in the Playoffs...which would be Kidd, J.R. Smith, Felton and Chandler. So, who else was he supposed to be deferring to when the players he did defer to can't score? Or does everyone just look at Carmelo's numbers? When the Knicks were winning, guess what the biggest difference was...their 3 point shooting. When that disappeared and the Knicks older players couldn't play D or score towards the end of the season, the Knicks struggled. They were only winning again when Carmelo got hot and was playing out of his mind. You cannot do that in the Playoffs against great defensive teams, and add the fact that he was injured to that, that is why they lost. So in essence, they DO need another scorer. People labeling him a ballhog doesn't negate that as a fact.

Will Melo pass the ball to this other scorer ?

Anthony is right. Watching them in the last series it was quite evident that Melo was the only player that could create his own shot. The other guys on the team could spot up for open jumpers, but not much more. I don't think Anthony is a ball hog, he just knows he has to pick up the slack.

I guess they had that in Lin?

The difference between time and Carmelo is time passes.  Getting another scorer to stand around and watch Carmelo play one on whoever isn't going to help.  Not to mention his lack of defensive ability to put it mildly.  Yes the Knicks improved in the regular season but once the playoffs started their way of playing wasn't going to get them very deep.  Beating the aging Celtics was not a very hard task and you see what happened when the met up with a better team.

Ha ya....sorry if my options are Shumpert, Felton, Novak, Prigioni, Chandler or Martin......im not passing the ball to those humps either.

Will the new scorer be given another ball to use? Melo isn't sharing...

Melo has spent his career whining about needing help. Great players worry about themselves and make the guys they are playing with better. The Knicks are buried under bad contracts and wasted their amnesty on Billups. You can bet your last dollar that Me-First will opt out next year.

Another player he won't pass the ball to?

So Melo wants another scorer on the team so that player can pass the ball to him?

Ha, good luck! Knicks are beyond capped out. This is what happens when you trade a bunch of young players with affordable contracts for an overrated star who said he only wanted to play for you anyway. The Knicks can't add anyone useful. Next year they just get one year older. They've already peaked. They're headed downhill until Melo and Amare are gone, and then the rebuilding starts again.

Listening to Melo is usually a big mistake.

@MrGameandShow Ahh yes, because the Nuggets didn't get any better when they drafted him and the Knicks didn't win their 1st Division title in 13 years because of him.  Your meritless criticism displays your lack of understanding of basketball.

@Ant @MrGameandShow You are an idiot buddy, did he lead a team to the finals, no. Did he go above and beyond for his team and leading his team to a title, no. You have no idea about "understanding of basketball", you say this BS right now because the guy is on your favorite team.  No offense, its great to win during regular season and post up good stats will also providing games of 37 points and 6 rbs or 2 asst. That means nothing when you dont win big games and you advance in the first round but no further. Good for you for sticking up for Melo. How can Knicks provide offense when their is clearly a mess with their cap issues?

@Ant @MrGameandShow Both teams peaked before the finals because they were limited by Anthony's ballhogging. He's an excellent scorer, but a black hole on defense and he refuses to share.

You're wasting your breath. Most casual "fans", if you can even call them that, hear one sound bite on sports radio show and cling to that as their primary source of information on a player or a team. It makes absolutely no difference to them that the only reason the Knicks were successful this season was BECAUSE of Melo's newly found ability to kick out to the open shooter. Too bad those shooters disappeared in the playoffs, leaving Anthony to try and carry the team on his own. Guess it was too much dead weight for him to handle.

@lazaro @Ant @MrGameandShow Limited by ballhogging?  More like limited by lack of help offensively.  If a guy is shooting 30 percent from the field with no signs of improving, you naturally defer to your primary scorer.  JR Smith has a track record of vanishing in the playoffs and Tyson Chandler needs to keep his mouth quiet if he's gonna contribute 4 pts and 5 boards over a 40 minute stretch.  You got J Kidd blowing WIDE OPEN layups and 3's, yet its Melo's hogging thats doing the damage?  If the Knicks get another 15/20 pt man, and keep injuries to a minimum, they'll essentially have what they need.
