Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will fight Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 14, the undefeated welterweight champion announced Wednesday night on his Twitter account.

The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Golden Boy Promotions said both fighters will fight at the catchweight of 152 pounds. There is no limit on how heavy Alvarez can get post weigh-in.

Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs), 22, is considered the top 154-pounder in the world. He defeated Austin Trout April 20 at the Alamodome in San Antonio to unify the WBC and WBA super welterweight titles.

Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) destroyed interim titleholder Robert Guerrero earlier this month winning in a 12-round unanimous decision.

Mayweather, 36, fought Guerrero at 147 pounds and made $32 million for the fight.

The Alvarez fight will be the second of Mayweather’s 30-month deal with Showtime/CBS. He signed the deal for up to six fights earlier this year after leaving his longtime television home HBO.

This will be a typical stick and move fight, points win for Mayweather. Canelo is a power puncher but he needs to be flat footed to hit with that power. I don't see Mayweather allowing that, he will pick him apart and win on points. When you look at two fighters with a size difference like this, you know easily what the strategy will be for the smaller man. Roy did it against John Ruiz. As long as you keep power punchers off-balance, you eliminate taking any major blows. Cotto in my eyes is the only power puncher that was able to put some shots on May and that's because he has pure power without the need to be flat on his feet. May still exposed his weakness and I think he will do the same against Canelo. The only guy who would have been able to beat May at his own game was Paq because he had speed and real power. He is done at this point, so I do not see it happening. I think Trout would actually give May a better fight.

Mayweather handpicks another victim. A Marquez rematch would have been much more challenging, hence Canelo.

Trout dominated Canelo except for the fact that he has no power. Canelo's power was the equalizer in the fight. But getting off power shots is a whole different task when you fight Mayweather.

He didn't dominate Trout! Far from that. Why isn't he fighting at 160 lbs.?

This is going to be a great one. Canelo dominated Trout and his defensive style is similar to Floyd's style but he hits harder. Should be a real battle.

Idk What Fight you were watching but Alvarez nowhere near dominated trout if anything trout exposed Canelo and proved he's not ready this will be another Easy win for money may then the Mayweather haters will turn their attention back to pacquiao IF he can get past Brandon rios lol

@TristinMcKinneyeasy win?? smh, Mayweather's speed and punching is nothing to compare to compare to what Roy Jones was, and look what happened to him when he ran into the wrong puncher.... Mayweather is smart to take the fight right now when Canelo is a little raw but till this day he hasn't fought anybody with pure punching power at the peek of their career... Mosley and Cotto were already at there downside and Paquiao was completely avoided.....

What fight were you watching? The only reason canelo was blocking so many of the hits and not hitting Trout as much was because he already knew he had won the fight. That's how it is in Texas. Canelo had already been notifie that the fight was his a few rounds before the fight was over but before that he rocked Trout and knocked him down which is something that had never been done before.

@GuillermoGutierrez @TristinMcKinney WTF? Why are you even talking about a Light Heavyweights handspeed versus a welterweight handspeed? If you are going to talk about boxing, at least come off as knowledgeable. Talking about completely different weight classes with those two.

@jjjjjj9 @MrGameandShow @LisettReynaga Open scoring is a mythical BS system. You dont know your place/standing during a boxing match, you box just as hard your opponent. Its about who wants it more. You disengage from your opponent, you are not that good as you think you are.

@LisettReynaga Sounds like some backdoor excuse you made up for the guy. What you are saying conjecture. Fighters dont take it easy like that anyways. And thats not how it is in Texas, kidding right?
