Joe Theismann: LeBron should play quarterback in the NFL
Former NFL legend Joe Theismann still thinks that LeBron James has the potential to be a star NFL quarterback — and he’s willing to be James’ mentor.
Theismann told Fox Sports’ Chris Tomasson that he would work with James if he’s interested. Theismann also said that the 28-year-old James could play another few years in the NBA before switching leagues.
“I would love to work him out and also serve as his agent,” Theismann told Tomasson. “I’ll go wherever he wants this summer. He could play another four years in the NBA before seriously trying the NFL. … There are not a lot of 38- or 39-year-old basketball players, but there are 38- and 39-year-old quarterbacks, so there’s always time for him.”
This isn’t the first time that James’ name has been thrown around as part of a hypothetical NFL situation. In late 2011, James caused a bit of a stir after asking about NFL free agency while the NBA was in the midst of a lockout.
And on Friday, according to Tomasson, James was asked if he thought he could have been a good NFL quarterback. He said he thought he could, something about which Theismann agreed.
“I wouldn’t count him out. He’s the most tremendous physical specimen in all of sports,” Theismann said.. “I think he’s certainly talented enough. He’s intelligent. He’s like the quarterback on the Miami Heat.”
James, of course, has bigger fish to fry right now. His Miami Heat are tied 1-1 with the Indiana Pacers in their Eastern Conference Finals series, and the Heat are looking for their second straight NBA championship.
