Toronto Raptors President and general manager Bryan Colangelo will make a transition from basketball operations to the front office, Yahoo! columnist Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday. According to Wojnarowski, the Raptors are also preparing a “major” financial offer to current Nuggets general manager and reigning NBA Executive of the Year, Masai Ujiri.

Colangelo will be moved to the corporate side of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment in what Wojnarowski calls a “significant” position. MLSE, who owns the Raptors, the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and Major League Soccer team Toronto FC, recently hired former AEG executive Tim Leiweke as president and CEO. Leiweke, who is based in Los Angeles, said he was friends with Phil Jackson, who was linked to having interest in a front office position with the Raptors.

The Raptors finished 34-48 last season.

Who would want that job?  The team has nothing to work with for a long time to come.

He was given more than enough time...  Many times that really isn't the case, but he won't be able to look back and say he wasn't afforded with a real opportunity to do his job...  He lasted longer than he should have actually...

@Sportsfan18 My question is how he DID last this long. He was almost as bad as Matt Millen. Even more surprising is that he's still a part of the organization. Does he have incriminating pictures or something?

@brighat  @Sportsfan18  The team is owned by a group who really only care about the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Raptors could lose forever and as long as they are profitable they really would have no qualms. BC some how convinced them that Rudy Gay was going to turn around the franchise and still was going to in the future (these are business men/ hockey guys, not bball guys). The rumour is that his extension to be GM was going to be picked up no questions asked until the new CEO came in and said "are you guys nuts?".

Glad he's gone. The grass may not be greener, but at least BC ain't doing the damage anymore

@brighat  The Raptors make a very very healthy profit. Go look at the attendance numbers. You may be surprised what you discover.

@Shortofbrillant  Yeah, good 'ol Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. That pretty much says it all. I even wonder if the Raptors are making these guys money. Not much reason to see a Raptors game unless their opponent is one of the glamour teams. I doubt 10,000 people would stand outside ACC to see them choke away a Game 7 vs the Boston Celtics.

I guess if you did not even know a team like the Raptors still existed anymore, well, might be a sign that the GM has not done a good job.
