LeBron James fires back at Pacers’ Frank Vogel: ‘We’re not just another team’

LeBron James delivered a strong message to Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel on Sunday, three days before James’ Miami Heat take on Vogel’s team in the Eastern Conference Finals: “We’re not just another team.”

After beating the Knicks on Saturday to set up the rematch of last year’s second-round series, Vogel said of the Heat, “They’re just the next team that’s in our way and that’s how we’re approaching it.”

Asked if his ears perked up when hearing that, James told reporters, “Absolutely. I’ll be ready.”

Fox Sports Florida’s Chris Tomasson posted the full transcript of James’ comments:

“We’re not just another team. I don’t understand what he’s saying. But we’re not just another team. It’s not true.’’

Another reporter asks what he said.

LeBron: “He said we’re just another team in their way. We’re not just another team. We’re a great team. We’re very confident. We’ll be ready for them. But if we’re just another team, you really don’t prepare for just another team. We’re not just another team. You got to be prepared for us.’’

Before last year’s series, which the Heat won in six games after falling into a 2-1 hole, Vogel called Miami “the biggest flopping team in the NBA.” The Pacers won two of the teams’ three meetings during the 2012-13 regular season.

Real sorry the Pacers could not have won a very close OT game in game 1 .. Maybe Vogel should have said that the next team they play against are the Heat AND the 3 NBA referees.

Maybe LeBron will dunk on Frank Vogel, then stand over him and stare him down, like he did earlier this year when he threw down on the twin towers Beno Udrih and Jason Terry.

I fail to see what was so disrespectful about what Vogel said in the first place. It's not as if Miami has players with multiple Championship wins like the Spurs or the Lakers. And the last time I checked, the Miami Heat weren't exactly unbeatable. They lost to the Mavericks in the 2011 Finals, and that was when D Wade was 100%. Personally, I don't think the Heat are ready to play a REAL series. They went from the below .500 Bucks to the Bulls who only had 6-8 players left. If the Pacers don't beat them in this series, the Spurs OR the Grizzlies will do the job.

I guess James wanted the Pacers HC to say that the Pacers are afraid of the heat, The only other NBA player who wants more attention then James is D Coward.....

I guess because James is a nike sponsor we have to have every 7th grade remark he makes presented to us as "news story." Notice me! Notice me!

Sure, let's squabble over a typical post game interview cliche.   LeBron says the exact same thing all the time when asked about an upcoming team.  It's not about them it's about you. How you prepare yourself, your team.  Of course LeBron plays right along with the reporters giving them what they want: something to write about.

LeBron fanbois want to compare him to the GOAT aka Air Jordan but this is just another example that LBJ doesn't belong in that conversation. Instead of getting in his opponent's head which Jordan was exceptionally good at, LeBron lets the opponent get into his head. If it is really this easy to rile him them then one would really have to question just how fragile his ego really is. Seriously, feeling offended by a rather generic statement like this in order to create motivation? How trite and petty.

Alright, so he feel slighted by the opposing coaches comment. You get even, you don't whine about it in front of reporters. LeBron might have incredible physical tools but mentally, he's not at the GOAT level yet.

that time of the month lebron? a little sensitive aren't we? if you have to use  a remark as innocuous as that to get motivated then maybe you are allot more afraid of the Pacers than you want to admit. if they were not so young and immature they would have beaten you guys last year.

Lebron is too damn sensitive.   Most team leaders might use this as internal motivation, or maybe say it to their team but Bron has to let everyone know his fweewings have ben huwt.

He does this all the time.  Great player but fragile mentality.

Regardless of who or what was said, he did not like it and the Pacers did not need it. Heat in 5.

Lebron will never be better than Jordan period...MJ never left the organization he was drafted into and joined Bird and Magic so any claim to beeing better than Jordan was forfeited with that decision..that said this is another sign of his immaturity. Whats he suppossed to tell his players"Thier the defending champs we dont stand a chance so we should just lay down and take it?" He trying to psych his own players up so they dont put the Heat on a pedistal

Did he really have to "respond" to an innocuous and boilerplate statement made by every coach in every sport in every league EVER to a question of how to deal with a team LOADED with incredible talent? He took a sideways compliment as a freaking insult. Mature? Maybe. Dumb, absolutely. Even had to include the lame and disingenuous caveat "I understand what he's saying." No, clearly Lebron you do not understand. #gottajumpingonthehatewagon

@kewlwurld2013 this is one of the biggest denials I've seen, Vogel wasn't disrespectful I agree, but also not very nice, Lebron's answer is also not disrespectful, but to come up with these type of answers is clearly hate and denial, they won last year, they have become a better team this year. It's obvious you don't like the Heat but it's really gonna sting when we win again.

And btw Dwade is a multiple Champion.

Don't get mad thou, try to appreciate the way they play.

@kewlwurld2013 I honestly think you're crazy if you think anyone else in the league can beat the Heat this year.  As dominant as they have been, I'd be surprised if they get to a game 6 during these playoffs.

@blah77 funny enough you're the first person to bring this Jordan James discussion, every time I hear these comparisons are not from fans.

@blah77 I would be happy to never hear Jordan or James ever brought up again. They both get too much media attention.

@tonyg63  I think you're dismissing the fact that Chicago took care of Jordan.  Cleveland did no favors for LeBron, bringing in washed-up veterans was not what they needed to bring a championship to their city.

@jeebs He's psyching himself up. Some athletes look for any innocuous statement to help fuel their fire and this has really motivated LBJ.

....Anyways I still believe that Miami cannot beat a well coached team with "big men" that rebound and protect the paint and guards that defend the perimeter in a 7 game series, which is all that's left in the playoffs now but we'll see what happens. As good as Lebron is, I don't think he has enough energy to go 30-10-10 and hit a game winner in overtime in 3 more games. The Heat are in for a fight, both in this round and the Championship if they do make it past Indiana. There's not gonna be a broom waiting on the Miami sidelines like it was against Milwaukee and Chicago. If they think it's going to be easy like you guys do, then they will lose.

Translation .. the whole world should kiss the bottomside of LBJ .. uhhh .. I think we all will pass .. but you wont ..

No one is unbeatable, they may appear unbeatenable because quite honestly the East is really weak this year with no Rondo, Rose, etc but I could easily see Memphis or San Antonio beating them. To further back up my point only one other team in the East achieved 50+ wins the last time that happened was 2007. San Antonio and Gregg Poppavich have in the past developed game plans to basically shut down Lebron and it would not suprise at all to see it happen again this year..be careful when you say a team is unbeatable Memphis's front line will destroy Miami in a series. Would the Grizzlies win? I don't know but I can guarentee this Miami will be outrebounded, and dominated in the paint in that series

You realize you JUST proved my point, right?  Why would the GM depend on a 20'something year old making franchise decisions?  Scottie didn't get drafted (nor did Phil Jackson get pulled in) because of Jordan.  LeBron played nearly a decade on a horrible team in a horrible city with horrible management . . and he GOT TO THE FINALS.  Almost single-handedly.  I don't care for the guy's personality, but he doesn't owe Cleveland ANYTHING.

You need to do your research Jordan didn't get a title until his 9th year, when the BULLS DRAFTED SCOTTIE PIPPEN. You saying the Cavs didnt take care of Lebron is idiotic every basketball move was made after consulting Lebron..hell they overbabied this jascka$$

@ez_life4me  @JayPiercefield Um, I was replying to a guy who said, "you can't fix stupid" about one of the smartest players in the game.Coach Vogel said what he said to prepare his team, keep them from getting intimidated.  Lebron said what he said to prepare his team, trying to create bulletin board passion.  The motives behind both statements were obvious, and neither was "stupid".Jay's comment showed that he holds a lot of animosity towards Lebron, enough so that he either couldn't see the obvious reason Lebron made the comments or chose to misrepresent it to try to tarnish him.  Since I'm pretty sure Lebron has never done anything personal to Jay, I'm fairly certain Jay's anger is quite misplaced.  Hence my suggestion.
