Tania Ganguli reports Garrard plans to retire as a Jaguar, possibly on a one-day contract.

[Original: 4:17 p.m. EDT] Quarterback David Garrard is parting ways with the Jets according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, but the details surrounding their parting remain mysterious.

Garrard, who signed with the Jets in May after being released by the Dolphins last September,  told the USA Today he looked forward to being a mentor for rookie franchise quarterback Geno Smith.

Hate to see David Gerrard go, the guy was definitely set to be the QB for the Dolphins and probably the starter for the Jets as well.  He'll be a very good QB coach somewhere either under his own banner or someone else, if he chooses to be.

After a couple of weeks, working in the Jets sideshow, he decided his knee was sore.  Ha, very funny and a smart move.

At least Sanchez only has 2 other QBs to not beat for the starting role......Maybe Tebow would come back to augment the dumpster fire called the Jets.Best of luck in your future David. Smart man for knowing when to walk away.
