In a world of keeping up with the Joneses, college football assistants are reaping the rewards in the salary department.

Three Ohio State assistants got pay raises recently, each upping their annual salary to over $500,000 per season.

Defensive coordinator Luke Fickell ($600,000), co-defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Everett Withers ($580,000) and offensive coordinator Tom Herman ($550,000) all got raises, reports the Columbus Dispatch. Withers and Herman each received a raise of $130,000 over their 2012 salaries.

“We can’t stay stagnant,” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said. “We had to respond to the market.”

The market saw Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart get his salary raised to a cool $1.2 million per year. LSU is paying defensive coordinator John Chavis $1.1 million and added former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron for that same job with a three-year, $3.4 million contract. Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris leads the way making $1.3 million a year.

“It wasn’t because, ‘We’re competing with Alabama.’ That wasn’t the idea,” Smith said. “I had to bite the bullet (after Mattison). We didn’t have anybody near that level, and the Pac-12 started doing the same thing (at Oregon and Southern California). The reality is, as that changed, we had to change with it.”

Amazing!  These coaches must be pretty damn important since they all get paid more than the president of the U.S.!!. And we still consider this an amateur sport........what a joke!
