One sailor is dead and another injured after a 72-foot-long Swedish sailboat capsized in San Francisco Bay Thursday during practice for the upcoming America’s Cup races, according to the Associated Press.

Artemis Racing confirmed the death of crew member Andrew “Bart” Simpson via Twitter.

San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said the two people were injured when the Artemis Racing catamaran capsized at about 1 p.m. near Treasure Island in the bay.

Simpson was pronounced dead a short time after paramedics performed CPR. The other person’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The remaining members of the 10-man crew were transferred to a support boat operated by Oracle Racing, which is defending its 2010 America’s Cup title. The races are scheduled to run from July through September.
