It’s hard to go anywhere but up after the 4-12 season the Detroit Lions had last year. But Nick Fairley, the team’s defensive tackle, thinks the Lions will see such a vast improvement over the course of one year that he expects a Super Bowl appearance next season.

In a report Thursday from Detroit News columnist Terry Foster, Fairley is quoted as saying the team is going to the Super Bowl next year and people should expect big things from the team:

“I expect big things. I am going to say we are going to the Super Bowl because I am competitive and that is what I want for the team, and it is one of the goals. I am sure we are going to take it game by game and day by day…I expect big things. We picked up some good guys in the draft. It is going to be up to us (players) to getting the chemistry up to where we can play off each other. We are going to do some big things this year. Those are our expectations.”

Despite the high expectations, the Lions are already dealing with disappointing news for one of those draft picks. The team’s second-round pick Darius Slay is missing this week’s rookie minicamp after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in May to repair a torn meniscus. He is expected to miss the rest of the offseason workout schedule but should be ready to go when training camp officially opens in July.

Nothing wrong with Fairley feeling that way if he honestly does, but it's a shame that he's dumb enough to state it publicly to a sportswriter.  Decent DT, but he's a largely clueless person in general and continues to prove as much.

Not sure he exactly said the Lions are going to the Super Bowl this year. My reaction is that he was talking about the core group getting there at some point. With the talent they have, this would be a reasonable expectation for anyone but the Detroit Lions, whose main problem remains the fact William Clay Ford took a bone from an Indian graveyard in1962 and never returned it. Sad, but probably true.

The only way he wins a super bowl next year is signing with another team.  The only way the Lions "get" to a super bowl next year is to buy their tickets early

"Despite the high expectations?"  I think that says it all.  Wasn't this guy busted for marijuana possession?  Looks like he's still under the effects.

Fairlwy the Lions have a better chance of someone else being arrested before the season even starts
