Chicago Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose will miss Game 1 of the Bulls Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat, ESPN’s Nick Friedell reports. According to the report, Rose said he isn’t ruling himself out for playing “at some point” during the series against the Heat but Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau has ruled Rose out for Game 1.

Rose has yet to appear in a game for the Bulls this season after tearing his ACL in Game 1 of last year’s playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. In addition to Rose being out, the Bulls will take on the defending NBA champion Heat without Luol Deng and possibly Kirk Hinrich in Game 1.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said his team has to “prepare for the awareness that he could possibly come back.”

The great players in sports play when not 100% if needed.  Mario Lemieux flew to Philly to play a game the same day as his final radiation treatment for hodgkin's lymphoma.  Yes he can sit out the rest of the season and let it further heal until next season, but he could get hurt again anyway.  The great ones play when needed.

Is D-Punk's pay check "up in the air" as well?  He's had a year off, and he's been cleared to play for months.  He is refusing to work, while collecting a paycheck.  He needs to get his butt on the court, or file for retirement.

Can SI, ESPN, etc. stop reporting that Rose won't play and just agree to only report when he decides to actually play? That would save us all a lot of time.

FYI Rose -- as someone who has had ACL replacement surgery, I can tell you that your knee will NEVER feel the same again. It may not hurt, it may even be stronger, but it will ALWAYS feel different than it did before. So man up and help your teammates who are laying it all on the court.

@Whatever I'm sure D Rose will take your comments into consideration.

@Beef Jerky Somebody needs to tell him that. If he's waiting for his knee to feel the same as before the injury, he'll never play ball again.

The Bulls should find some sucker in the off season and trade Rose for a couple of first round picks. The Bulls are proving they can win without him.
