Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ensured the team’s season ticket holders that the Cowboys don’t have a lack of leadership and that the team isn’t run like a country club, despite those who may think otherwise.

The Cowboys have missed the playoffs the past three seasons and four out of the last five.  Former coach Jimmy Johnson said last November that the team doesn’t have a sense of fear because the team is “a country club where everybody is buddies.”

“I don’t think that we do have a country club atmosphere around here,” Jones said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “There’s too much competition. These players recognize how fortunate they are to be in the NFL, to have these opportunities. We’ve got as good or better leadership than my experience in 24 years with the Cowboys has seen.

“I think the stage is set with the attitude, the personnel, what Jason Garrett is doing relative to his leadership. All of those things will come to bare. We just need to win a couple of games that we didn’t win, let’s say each of the last two years, get in the tournament and go from there.”

Jerry, as the wrestler Chris Jericho says, would you please shut the h--- up?  The Cowboys ARE a country club. Ever since Jimmy Johnson left, you have used the team to stroke your own ego. You have no clue how to be a GM, you speak for all your coaches (and hire their staffs for them), you've only had a few guys in your drafts that have stood out and you sign your QB to a huge contract that he doesn't deserve and has only won one playoff game. You don't even have his heir apparent on the roster, and you should by now. Everything that comes out of your mouth is diarrhea, and no one should hold anything you say credible. Just hire a coach and GM and give them control of the personnel decisions, sign the checks and stay in the owner's box and schmooze with the other big whigs. Oops, sorry, that's asking way too much.

No, the Cowboys are not run like a country club.  They are "run" by a reactionary fool in charge whose only real motivation is increasing the value of the franchise.  Wins count for little, and player personnel and development count for NOTHING as the Cowboys have neither the ability to draft well or to develop their players.  Has any OL ever improved while a Cowboy?  Doesn't the QB suffer the same issues now that he has 5-6 years earlier?  Isn't the DL stuck in mediocrity?  Do they have any good LBs?  (Who improve?  No,)  Aren't their safeties among the worst in the NFL?  Yes.  Aren't their CBs overpaid and not as productive as their salary or draft position indicates they should be?  Yes.  Basically, the Cowboys have two good players, DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten, both of whom have had their careers ruined by mediocrity everywhere else within the organization.  Even true Cowboy fans (actually, ESPECIALLY TRUE COWBOY FANS) hope that both of these players will be able to sign elsewhere so they can have some long overdue playoff success.  The Cowboys are not run like a country club because they do not have sufficient management ability, focus or drive to be managed that well.  The Cowboys are managed only for the financial gain of Jerry Jones.  (Any owner who lets his ego get in the way of the continued employment of Jimmy Johnson should be declared unfit to own an NFL franchise).  Say what you want about Jimmy Johnson, but he clearly turned around a bumbling franchise to SB winner in 4 seasons.  Since his departure, the Cowboys have been "led" by Jerry Jones who knows nothing about the successful management of a winning NFL franchise.  The proof?  Oh, how about the number of playoff wins over the past 15 years.  (One playoff win in that time - vs. the EAGLES, so not really even that important of a win)!  New Billion dollar stadium which actually seems to provide a "road team advantage".  And those awful Thanksgiving Day uniforms with the large star on the shoulder pad which are clearly cursed.  Everything about the Cowboys has to change, and the biggest change HAS to be at the top!

Jesus Jerry, YOU are the reason your team sucks! Talk about the players and coaches and their abilities all you want, but YOU are the reason your team hasn't won a playoff game in two decades. All of these players and coaches and executives are forced to kiss your @$$ and YOU call all of the shots.

As long as YOU are the owner (as well as the de facto GM and head coach) your team will be awful because you have no idea what YOU are doing. If I were a Giant, Redskins or Eagles fan I would pray every day for you to live another hundred years.

Its probably fair to say they are not run like a country club but they are also not run like the Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Giants or Packers. The organizational structure is very similar to the Al Davis led Raiders.

The Cowboys are run by a person whose ego is far greater than his general manager ability.

Until enough Cowboy fans wake up to the irrefutable fact Jerry isn't a good enough GM to build playoff teams and quit giving him the interest and support owner Jones needs to keep playing GM, they will keep being fair to poor.

Too many Cowboy fans willing to keep hoping. With Jerry playing amateur GM there is no legitimate hope.

Shows you something when the owner of a club calls the Playoffs "the tournament".. I mean really, who calls it "the tournament"?  Out of touch much?

I hope Jerry Jones is around for 20 more years?

Win a couple more games and you're in the playoffs?  No kidding.  How many other teams could say that too?  But this organization proves time and time again that they don't win the games they need to; and the one constant for the last 15 years is you, Jerry Jones.  This team will go 8-8 or worse, you'll blame Garrett, and the cycle will start all over again.  Four years from now, assuming he isn't cut sooner, you'll be standing up at a pre-draft press conference talking about how Frederick was a "starter", not a bust, and without him the Cowboys would never have been able to get to .500 four years in a row...

Jerra's right, of course. Having "babysitters" assigned 24/7 to make sure employees don't get into trouble suggests the kind of spartan environment that we all have all come to associate with the Cowboys. That's why we call it America's Team! (Note: Jerra even has a "frownie" face in the photo to show he really means business this time.)

Leadership for the cowboys BAHAHAHAHA  anytime you get a coach that has any expectations you fire them.  Garrett should have been fired and you should have made Ryan your head coach.  Looking forward to another losing season.  Oh, yes you should fire yourself PLEASE!!!

@KenDavis Kudos. Keeping the cowpies in the toilet is important work and the man for the job is Jerri.

 @Dodgmoma

You may have a point about Garret, but Ryan as a head coach.  I think not.  The guy is all talk and when he fails, he blames everyone but himself. He talks a lot but does not deliver. Hated to see him go to the Saints as he will not be able to help them.

@vanman  @Dodgmoma I'm no Rob (or Rex for that matter) Ryan fan, but he shouldn't have been fired. The defense wasn't to blame. It was Romo's inconsistency and Garrett's lack of consistent play calling. I agree that Ryan isn't head coach material yet, but just a coordinator or position coach. Even if Jerry fires Garrett after this coming season, he will just get another puppet coach that he can control. You think a Gruden or Cowher is going to work for a dictator and not be able to bring their own guys in or have no control over draft or other personnel decisions? Dream on! I wouldn't put it past Jerry to hire someone like Bobby Petrino or a college offensive coordinator.
