Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess is becoming a hot property around the league.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday that the Cleveland Browns are “seriously considering” a trade for Bess.

The report says that several other teams are in the mix for Bess’ services and the Dolphins are hoping to get a mid-round selection in return. The Miami Herald reports that Arizona, St. Louis, San Francisco, Minnesota and the New York Jets are among the teams interested.

Bess played in 15 games last season, with 13 starts. He was the team’s second-leading receiver catching 61 passes for 778 yards and a touchdown.

Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was asked if Bess was in the team’s long-term plans.

“Absolutely. Yeah,” Philbin said to Miami Herald. “As you guys know, I envision us bringing 10 or 12 guys to training camp. We’re going to get a lot of reps as we see and we’re going to let guys go out there and compete and earn spots and take it from there.”

Would it be a shock if Miami trades Bess to the Browns and the Browns turn around and trade him the the Pats for QB Ryan Mallet?  .....Browns are interested in Mallet and the Pats are in need of a WR.

I would keep Bess- he's quick, runs great routes and has amazing hands (catches everything near him). Devon is the man!!!!

I can see this from a business standpoint, Bess's contract ends after this season, and the Dolphins have brought on 2 new receivers and want to get something out of Bess. However as a fan, I would not trade Bess for a pick to use to get Albert, from what some other sites are saying. I say convert John Jerry to RT, make Jonathan Martin LT, and keep Bess. Or Sign Eric Winston and still keep Bess. The last time the dolphins did this it ended up coming back and biting them (Welker to the Patriots). Bess was supposed to be a Wes Welker type WR, and has proven to be so. And if Miami somehow is not able to pick Tyler Eifert, a strong slot WR is the next best thing.

@RichardYoungman I do not want to see Miami trade Bess, but I do not agree that this is another Wes Welker type of trade.  WW was only successful because of where he went and the QB they already had, not because of the type of player he was.  Look at the potential trade partners listed above: Arizona, St. Louis, San Francisco, Minnesota and the New York Jets.  Tell me where Bess lands in that list that allows him to become the next WW.  Nowhere short of SF and that's a stretch since they have a QB that doesn't spread the ball around that much.  Bess would only thrive if traded to a team with an elite QB.  I'd rather see him stay home and see if Tannehill turns out to be elite one of these days.
