Antonio Cromartie on Jets trading Darrelle Revis to Bucs: ‘It sucks’
Darrelle Revis’ former partner in the New York Jets’ secondary summed up his feelings on the team’s pending trade of the All-Pro cornerback in two words: “It sucks,” Antonio Cromartie told the New York Daily News.
After months of speculation, the Jets agreed to trade Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, pending a physical.
Cromartie, who formed one of the NFL’s top cornerback tandems with Revis in 2010 and ’11, lamented the move shortly after it was announced.
From the Daily News‘ Manish Mehta:
“It sucks. That’s my reaction: It sucks,” Cromartie told the News. “Losing a guy like that just sucks. A leader in the locker room, a leader in the classroom, a leader on the field. A great playmaker on the field. It just sucks losing a guy like that.”
“I’m surprised really, to tell you the truth,” Cromartie added. “I’m surprised more so than anything.”
“I know it’s a business… but I don’t even have a reaction now,” Cromartie said. “I don’t even know what to say…. I was thinking last year when I saw him that it was going to be the both of us (on the Jets) for a long time. But I understand the business standpoint of it.”
Cromartie, entering his eighth season, added that he does not believe the deal is an indication that the Jets are rebuilding, explaining that he’s “too old” to talk about rebuilding.
