Orioles manager Buck Showalter responds to Rex Ryan’s comments

MLB, NFL

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter responded to New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s comments about the Orioles and Ravens scheduling conflict on September 5th that couldn’t be resolved.

“I understand the Orioles are playing a game at home. Well, who really cares? You’ve got 81 of them things at home and maybe you could’ve done the right thing and given one up and played 82 on the road and 80 at home. I really don’t think people are going to care about that game.

Showalter told Baltimore Sun reporter Dan Connolly that Ryan should be more concerned about a November 24th showdown between the Jets and Ravens in Baltimore.

“I try to stay out of things I don’t know about. … I would stay in what is my area of supposed expertise.” Showalter said.

The Ravens will play their first game of the season in Denver on September 5th while the Orioles will host the Chicago White Sox in Baltimore on the same day.

It's the NFL's scheduling problem, not MLB's.

Is no one understanding the mechanics of this? It wasn't up to anyone but MLB. Not Peter Angelos or anyone affiliated with the Orioles. This is squarely on the shoulders of Bud Selig.

Wow, a pretty strong comeback from a manager of a team that has had ONE winning season in the last FIFTEEN years! LOL

@LeeSmith2 He's a baseball coach that has that winning record, so why should he give a sh*t what a football team wants, regardless of the record the club had for the last 15 years before he arrived to coach.  Rex Ryan should keep quiet, especially as a coach that cannot back up ANYTHING that sputters out of his mouth.

unfortunately that was a great way to ensure the Orioles have good attendance this year.. Too bad no one thinks of the fans that pay to see you guys. Would have been good city brotherhood if O's did double header in July at Chicago then they would have a day off during a long stretch close to the postseason, and Peter A coulda extended an olive branch to all those Ravens fans that dont go to O's games. Guess the O's dont have to worry about a fan cross over now. Oh well, Rex was right for once, too bad for us...
