Report: Indiana’s Cody Zeller to enter NBA Draft

NBA

Indiana center Cody Zeller will leave school after his sophomore season and enter the NBA Draft, reports the Indianapolis Star‘s Bob Kravitz on Twitter.

Zeller helped the Hoosiers to a Big Ten title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. His announcement comes one day after teammate Victor Oladipo declared for the draft.

Zeller ranked 10th on the latest NBA Draft Big Board from SI.com’s Chris Mannix. Zeller has a short wingspan (reportedly 6-8), and there are questions about whether he will be able to score consistently against NBA defenders. But he is still expected to be taken in the top half of the first round.

Sometimes wonder what his hurry is.  His game needs further development.  He had some good games this year but he also had some very forgettable games.  IU made great strides this year but many of the losses can be attributed to coaching.  How does some 5'10" walk-on from Butler beat you with a drive to the bucket?   If Zeller had been playing defense in the middle, the walk-on never even gets that shot off.  However, Zeller was on the bench with the game on the line and Jordan Hulls, who couldn't stop a middle school third-stringer, was schooled by the walk-on.  Why was Zeller on the bench with the game on the line?

Zeller got lead feet and is too slow to be a pro.

Zeller will be getting posterized while Ola-di-PRO will be winning dunk contests.  Victor worked hard to get here but Zeller needs more work.  I'm sure there will be sweet sixteen rings for sale on Steiner Auctions now.

The Hoosiers were the most disappointing team in the tournament this year. They were oblivious as to how to attack the Syracuse zone. They were the only team that could not attack it.

Yack it up haters.  Why don't you take a look at how he played vs Anthony Davis.  Believe it or not there is a place in the NBA for a 6'11 PF that runs the floor very well and can knock down the perimeter shot.  At Indiana he was asked to be the primary paint presence which did not play to his strengths.  He still lead the team in scoring and rebounding, not too shabby considering he shared the load with top 5 pick Oladipo, while shooting near 60% FGs and 75% FTs.  Tyler Hansbrough faced the same criticism but has carved out a niche as a solid performer off the bench for a playoff team.  Best of luck Cody, it's been great having you here in Bloomington, we all appreciate your contributions in resurrecting the program.

Well, he did lead Indiana to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances! I understand they are setting aside a special place in their trophy case to spotlight their achievement of coming in 2nd Place in both games!

If you ain't first your last.  To have trophy cases and rings for sweet sixteen appearances...when a school has all those championships and banners......getting desperate if you ask me.
