Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is getting acquainted with his new receiver Wes Welker this offseason just in time for voluntary workouts which are slated to begin next week.

Welker signed with the team last month after spending the previous six seasons with the New England Patriots.

Manning and his brother New York Giants quarterback, Eli, are working out at Duke University with Blue Devils head coach David Cutcliffe, reports ESPN.com.

Cutcliffe was Peyton’s offensive coordinator at Tennessee and Eli’s head coach at Ole Miss.

Both quarterbacks brought three receiver down to Duke: Peyton Manning has Broncos teammates Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Welker; Eli brought Giants teammates Hakeem NicksVictor Cruz and Louis Murphy.

“There’s certain guys you just feel like you have timing with right away,” Manning said. “He’s a guy that has a great feel for how to get open, and understands route concepts and, of course, he played in such a sophisticated offense there in New England, so he’s a smart player. You can see why he’s been such a productive player. He’s intense. He loves to work.”

They encountered one problem during their workout. After about 10 plays with Welker cutting within, at most, 5 yds from the line of scrimmage, Manning asked Welker if he knew how to run routes longer than 5 yds - to which Welker replied "No, we didn't run those in New England".............

notice how the really great ones have that drive instead of DOING the things we read about?  Peyton is such a pro. Think, if the Denver defense could have lasted 90 seconds they would have been in the superbowl---Peyton got them where they had to be---just prevent a TD.  MJ and others have one focus---win. The other factor is these kind of players in all sports make others better like MJ and Pippen.  Live in Dallas but will be cheering for Denver.

Louis Murphy, huh.  Guess he's officially the Giants no. 3 receiver, then.

It's hard to imagine this working out well for anyone. Except the Bronco's that is. Although it will be fun to watch when they aren't playing your favorite team.

As a Bronco fan, this is music to my ears. Peyton is gonna put up video game numbers this year.

Welcome aboard Wes!

Stick it to the Hoody.

@Jacob4 I don't know about video-game numbers, because he doesn't have a deep ball anymore.

He's gonna have a helluva 3rd down conversion rate, though.  How do you deny the first-down when all three receivers are elite intermediate route-runners?
