The verbal abuse that Josh Hamilton’s wife received from Texas Rangers fans was so harsh that she was forced to call security during the game, Hamilton said.

Katie Hamilton and the couple’s four kids remained in their seats and watched Friday’s game with a security guard present.

Josh Hamilton went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts as the Angels lost, 3-2, in his first game back in Arlington since signing a stunning five-year $125-million contract with Los Angeles.

The outfielder, who slumped throughout the second half of 2012 as the Rangers lost their division lead and the AL Wild Card Game, received “vicious boos” from Rangers fans.

[Jaffe: Hamilton's return adds spice to Angels-Rangers rivalry and opens old wounds]

From USA Today:

“It’s cool to get ragged on about normal things,” Josh Hamilton said, but when you get a little swearing and jawing back at Katie, and saying inappropriate things, it’s a little different story.

“They were saying personal stuff, stuff that was inappropriate with kids around. It’s a good lesson for the kids, just about people in general, and not putting faith in them, but the man upstairs.”

Hamilton conceded that he was upset with the taunts, but was grateful that it didn’t appear to upset his kids.

“It was cool, they weren’t upset when they got home,” Hamilton said. “They kissed me and hugged me, and brought friends over. They played on a trampoline and I jumped on the trampoline with them. It was just like any other game coming home, and I was treating it like that.”

This is the real world, the Good Ship Lollipop doesn't exist. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I watched Hamilton go 0-5 in an extra inning loss while recovering from his back injury against AAA Iowa.

A drunk in his 50's heckled him every time he came up from behind home plate.  Hamilton ignored him every time.  I felt kinda bad for the fan, he got escorted out of the stadium and missed the end of a very good game.

Those things unfortunately happen. I guess the wife and kids should have been up in the luxary boxes.

The rest of us have to put up with drunken idiots at ballgames, so why shouldn't they? He can afford to buy seats away from the riff-raff, but chooses not to. The whining has to stop, Josh.

Just pay your share of the national debt (much of which has gone to supporting your deadbeat, obese citizens), secede, and be done with it.

You've got to a special kind of scum bag to go after someone's wife.  get a life, for god's sake.  It's a baseball game.

Hamilton's wife and kids should not have attended the game. Dumb decision.

Texans are such idiots. Two years ago they were cheering him and now that he is playing for another team they boo him.  That is cheap.  But what is not allowable is cursing him with foul language in front of his children. Shame on you, Dallas Texas!

I was not there; didn’t witness it; but I know fans can be classless buffoons that at times; crossing the line into causing fears for ones security.  There is some blowback from the celebrity security sector developing.  A few security companies; (mostly made of ex-Special Forces Intel types); help clients learn to deal with these kind of situations.  One tool being used more commonly is the use of a hidden video capture device, usually embedded in sunglasses or apparel.  When confronted (by paparazzi, rabid fans, etc.), the client and security detail simply record what they see while avoiding confrontation.  Afterwards, the video is analyzed and used as a teaching tool for the clients to learn how better to deal with the ill-treatment; thus removing the psychological scars and fears that sometimes follow.  In extreme cases, the video is processed through facial recognition software – (re: Facebook) and the perpetrators are identified by name.  In some experimental cases, videos have been posted on Facebook, You-Tube, etc., with the parties identified in a non-judgmental but public forum.  The hope is that this would cause embarrassment, shame and a rethinking of one’s actions in the future.  This technology is beginning to be adopted in law-enforcement as a crime fighting tool and in helping some at risk children; here the idea to stop bullying by public humiliation.  Most people do not want to see their transgression committed to public exposure on Facebook or YouTube.  This technology is being more readily available and used every day.  It is a return to public shamming in hopes of self-corrective behavior for the perpetrators and a tool to remove the incident from vile memory for the victims – all thanks to Micro Technology, the Patriot Act, and Social Media!

I have no problem with Katie Hamilton getting booed. I should not know what Josh Hamilton's wife name is, but I do. She made sure of that for the 5 years that she allowed Josh to play in Texas, Texas fans booed her because of commments that she made after she made Josh sign with the Angels. What did you expect when you sign with Texas most bitter rival, and talk down the team that bent over backwards to accommodate your flaky, druggy, jesus freak husband.

tduckk

heres a thought when you talk sh*t about the Rangers & their fans you should not be at the game is was ignorant for her to even show up but CPS should be called for her taking her kids to the game when they had to know they were not going to get a warm greeting. so I guess she is on drugs now not Josh. did she expect the wifes the fans to embrace her after her rude comments. keep ur fake butt in Cali chic your not welcome in Texas

Wow. Rangers fans are bitches. The guy carries the team for years and when he decides to go elsewhere - which is 100% his right, the "fans" act like bitches. Real cool taunting his wife and kids. I'd love to be around when these "fans" change jobs. I'd find their homes and harass their wives and kids - because that's the cool thing to do when someone makes a choice to do something they have every right to do.

Oh boo hoo. This beotch wanted to be involved with the contract and then trash the Rangers afterward but cannot handle the hest? Too freakin bad You and your quitter husband will be just fine in L.A. until he gets drunk again, has "eye" problems, does some more drugs or quits on his team. Without doubt, one of those things will happen it is just a matter of when.

They still live in Texas, to whoever said they live in NC. There's absolutely no reason his family can't attend a baseball game when he's playing, no matter where it is. Last year TX loved him, now he's public enemy #1, just like CJ was last year. There's a reason Cliff Lee decided to go back to Philly instead of staying on with the Rangers. I lived in the Dallas area for many years and Boo birds and hostility are 2 different things.

Other sources say that the Angels gave her security from the outset as a precautionary measure. No incidents were reported.

Why would his entire family decide to go to a game in Texas when they live in North Carolina? They knew full well the fans would be hostile to Josh.

Oh me, oh my!  What a surprise!  The druggie's wife gets hassled the first time back to Texas?!?!  I mean, really, who couldn't see that one coming?  What the hell was she even doing there?  And with kids?  Sure, in a perfect world where everybody behaves perfectly that doesn't happen.  But this is the real world and the incident just shows how out of touch Hamilton is to bring his family into a predictably hostile environment and the snivel about the result.

Get real man. There is NO excuse for bullying a man's wife and kids. And he didn't buy the seats. I'm sure that they were seats provided by the Rangers. Kudo's to the Rangers for providing Security

@simoni.fl Not why they are booing him.  He went public saying nasty things about the people who gave him second the third and fourth chances and put him where he is today.  Don't bite the had that feeds you.  And the fans were not ugly to his wife.  That is a lie.  She did not like the booing of her precious dope head husband.

@KevinMcClain I have no probs. with her getting booed, but to curse and call her/Josh names in front of their children is wrong. And the ppl that keep bringing up his past a now hope he has a relapse can hope no one finds out what they did in the past.

@tduckk Cursing no matter what is not to be tolerated in public.  I encourage anyone to call security when people act like this.  As a native Texan, please readers--know that this tduck poster is not the norm and does not represent Texans.

@Brad24 everybody has really conveniently forgot he led TX to two WS. The Rangers weren't even a blip on the baseball map until he showed up! If hitting 43 Hr's and 128 RBI is a slump, i'd take that any day. BTW, he accounted for 26 of the Rangers wins - by himself. the starting rotation was the slump - not hamilton. how many times can a time be expected to put up 12 runs to cover for the lack of pitching. good luck this year Rangers, you're gonna need it, and I like the Rangers, just not the classless fans.

If you thought I was critisizing him for his godly beliefs, you are an absolute idiot.

I consider a jesus freak to be someone that brings Jesus into every conversation, but does back up their words by their actions. Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Baker, Robert Tilton, WV Grant, Josh Hamilton. When you are going to preach everytime you talk, please practice what you preach.

@eddiej  I did not bring up his past in the hopes that he would have a relapse.

I sincerely hope that he beats all of his demons and never has another relapse.

Although I do wish that he never bats over .220 while he plays for the Angels.

I brought up his past because it is very relevant in why he was booed. The Rangers went way above and beyond in trying to create an atmosphere for Josh to help him overcome his addictions and weaknesses. And the Rangers told him to get his best offer and give them a chance to match it. And he agreed to do just that. And then he signed with the Angels and did not give Texas a chance to match it because as Katie describes it " They allowed Josh to date other people" So the Texas Rangers were the good wife that forgave Josh for whoring around at Sherlocks, and he left them because they allowed him "to date other people"?

darwin.grapes

 @suziecue59  @Brad24

The rangers had 1 of the the top rotations, an above average bullpen and a top 5 closer, wtf you talking about bad pitching?  Lets not forget, the pitchers get the wins not the position players, he's never put up 12 runs in a game quit making $hit up!!!
