Tigers sign reliever Jose Valverde to minor league deal
The Tigers signed reliever Jose Valverde to a minor league deal. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Patrick Reusse and later confirmed by the Tigers via Twitter. Valverde is a client of the Boras Corporation.
Valverde, 35, served as the Tigers’ closer from 2010 to 2012. He posted a 3.78 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 27 walks in 69 innings last season.

The news came as somewhat of a surprise, as the team did not attempt to re-sign him after he struggled during the 2012 postseason. The right hander appeared in four games and gave up nine runs, all earned, in less than three innings.
Surprising that the Tigers have signed Jose Valverde, after veering away from him all winter. But circumstances change.—
