RGIII defends Brittney Griner, Baylor women in lengthy Twitter rant

NFL

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who played football at Baylor, defended the university’s women’s basketball team after its upset loss to fifth-seeded Louisville in the NCAA tournament on Sunday.

Griffin fired off 12 tweets late Sunday night in an extensive rant that blasted the officiating in the game, as well as critics of Baylor star Brittney Griner.

Baylor, the overwhelming favorite of the tournament, fell 82-81 to Louisville after a valiant comeback effort fell just short. Griner was held to 14 points on just 4-of-10 shooting, but Griffin thought she should’ve been able to put up many more via the free-throw line.

Griffin tweeted that he had a hard time calming down after Baylor’s loss:

Ending his diatribe, Griffin addressed critics by saying he would “rather have the guts to stand up” for Baylor than to let his thoughts slide.

Griffin had a busy weekend making news at both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments. On Saturday, he attended the Elite Eight game between Syracuse and Marquette and chatted with President Barack Obama.
