Report: Matt Flynn traded to Raiders

NFL

The Seattle Seahawks will trade backup quarterback Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders for two draft picks, reports FOX’s Jay Glazer on Twitter.

One pick is in the 2014 Draft, and another conditional selection is in the 2015 Draft, Glazer subsequently tweeted.

Seattle had been expected to trade Flynn this offseason. He signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Seahawks last offseason. Flynn had success in limited action as Aaron Rodgers’ backup in Green Bay and was believed to be looking for a chance to start.

But rookie Russell Wilson won the quarterback competition during training camp and had a stellar first season. Flynn became expendable.

[Peter King's MMQB: Palmer, Flynn moves make sense, but they're not guaranteed fixes]

This trade should lead to the completion of another anticipated move: Oakland’s trade of Carson Palmer to the Cardinals. Palmer should help answer one question for Arizona: Who can get the ball to Larry Fitzgerald consistently?

Fitzgerald, one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, has dealt with a mix of inexperienced and ineffective passers over the past two seasons. Palmer isn’t an elite quarterback, but he has completed more than 60 percent of his passes in all but one season. He threw for 4,018 yards and 22 touchdowns last year.

Once again a team takes a chance on a guy who has been a career pine-time player, and giving up draft picks in the process. How I'd love to have Kolbs' and Flynns' agents!

So Palmer is not considered an elite QB.  Is Romo who just got that $108M contract elite? Are the rating categories something like masquerading (Sanchez, Gibbert), mediocre (Vick, Cassell), good (Smith, Rivers, Stafford), great (Brady, Brees, Manning) and elite (Flacco - in his own words).

What the hell is wrong with my Raiders? Continually trading away draft picks for mediocre players, when is this going to stop?  It's no wonder we've stunk for more than a decade!

@RJC I totally agree with you.  While I am not a Raiders fan,  i cannot fathom how they will develop any players with such limited draft choices in the next few years.

They are really taking a chance on Flynn who has that one good game on his resume, which if I remember correctly did not count much in the standings.  He hasn't really performed on the field for many years unless you count clipboard toting.
