Cubs place infielder Darwin Barney on DL
The Chicago Cubs have placed second baseman Darwin Barney on the 15-day disabled list with a laceration on his left knee. Barney injured his knee on Saturday chasing a fly ball an exhibition Spring Training game against the Houston Astros. He received five stitches and was placed on the disabled list as a precaution.
Brent Lillibridge took Darwin’s place in the starting lineup at second base today against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 27-year-old middle infielder played in 156 games and batted .254 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs last year for the Cubs.
RHP Scott Baker has been placed on the 60-day DL, while RHP Matt Garza, IF Ian Stewart and IF Darwin Barney are on the 15-day DL.—
