The Pac-12 coordinator of basketball officials was investigated by the conference for comments made about Arizona men’s basketball coach Sean Miller, reports CBSSports.com.

Ed Rush, who is a former NBA referee, allegedly told a group of referees on the Thursday of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas that he would give them $5,000 or a trip to Cancun if they either “rang him up” or “ran him.” Those terms are slang for ejecting someone from the game.

Referee Michael Irving gave Miller with a technical with 4:37 left in the Pac-12 semifinals against UCLA. The Bruins won the game 66-64.  Miller was later reprimanded by the Pac-12 Conference and fined $25,000 for confronting a game official after the game ended as well as for acting inappropriately toward a Pac-12 staff member in the hallway of the arena.

From CBSSports.com:

“Based on the review, we have concluded that while Rush made inappropriate comments that he now regrets during internal meetings that referenced rewards, he made the comments in jest and the officials in the room realized they were not serious offers,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott told CBSSports.com. “Following our review, we have discussed the matter with Rush, taken steps to ensure it does not happen again, and communicated our findings to all of our officials.”

PAC12 has lost all integrity.

So after listening to Larry Scott's comments today where he said that Rush's actions were 'not a fireable offense', my only question is 'What kind of pictures does Rush have of Scott?'

I was at every home Arizona game this season.   I know as a fan we can think all calls are agasinst us, but as I watched I found myself scratching my head on more than one occaision.  Just to be sure, I would even review some plays on the DVR when I got home.   About 2/3 of the time, I was still scratching my head thinking, "How could they call that?"  I played a lot of basketball in my life, and as far as I know the rules are pretty simple.   If these are top flight refs, how is it that there is so much controversy?   Of course, I am only talking about the controversial calls, many calls were good - but too many defy explanation...

There is a short list of topics that you simply do not "joke" about in sports ... Hitler, racial topics, etc, etc.

Anyone in that position who doesn't understand this ought to be fired for monumental stupidity if nothing else.

The PAC 12 response is not acceptable.  Bush and Irving should be fired on the spot.  Their actions have shed a bad light on the PAC 12 and all of college basketball. They make everything look suspicious.  They and the PAC 12 owe Arizona players, fans and Coach Miller an apology.  Coach Miller and AD Byrnes should tell them in no uncertain terms what they can do with that $25,000 fine.

THIS... is what we all knew. It's OK though.  The justice will come when we win the conference, the tournament, and the NC next year.

Corrupt officials in college sports? The lies I hear!

After internal reviews with our internal staff, protecting our internal arses we have concluded that it was all a big joke.. well except for that $25K fine.. we need that money to pay our internal people.

My sentiments Dan S. ! Perhaps Miller's confronting the official had some merit. The bigger issues here are with commissioner Larry Scotts' lame edict to Ed Rush. When a person of his position (Scott) chooses to make a decision like that, maybe the PAC 12 might rethink not only replacing Rush, but Scott as well.

Really commissioner? Why do the people in charge always treat others like our brains are dead. There's no way that Ed Rush said what he said in jest. Maybe Miller's a jerk and maybe Ed Rush is. Who cares! But please don't lower yourself any furthur with your ridiculous explanations. Leaders that outright lie like that should be replaced.

Michael Irving declined to comment from his Cancun hotel.
