Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema certainly did his best to fire up the fan base by commenting on Alabama coach Nick Saban’s record when he was coaching Michigan State in the Big Ten.

Bielema, who was hired by the Razorbacks from Wisconsin in December, spoke Wednesday night to the Saline County Razorback Club, who were having their annual fish fry.

He was asked about the challenges of playing in the SEC West and what Bielema said was interesting:

“I came to the SEC for a variety of reasons, but the major one in my mind was to win an SEC championship. You can take Saban’s record when he was at Michigan State and when he was a coach in the Big Ten and put it against mine, and he can’t compare,” Bielema said, according to Hootens.com.

Arkansas plays nine teams this season that made it to a bowl in 2012. Saban’s SEC team, Alabama, on the hand, has dominated college football in the past several seasons, winning two of the past three national championship

I am a Miami Dolphin, fan so I am no fan of Nick, as a matter of fact his success kind of makes me sick, but come on lets get real here this is like comparing apples to grapes conferences change Saban, was handed a wreak at Michigan State after George Peal left and the conference was much stronger back then, plus he was at the second choice school in his state, "Big Blue" being the school of choice so his recruiting  was hampered while Bielema had the prime school of his state and he came into a much better situation, so this is like saying Arnold, Coleman or Heath which is the better Body Builder you can't compare times and situations change lets wait 3 seasons or less and see it Bielema has the Hogs in a National Championship game as participants not as ticket buying spectators, then we can compare I hope he does because like I said before I am no fan of Nicky Satan, pay back is you know what.

There is a quote in business that seems to be tried and true and I think will be applicable to Bielema's football progression. The Peter principle  says "Employees tend to rise to their level of incompetence"

Brett, going from a weakling Big Ten where you finished 4-4 in your own conference (then gets to go to the Rose Bowl with 6 losses overall because two teams are on probation) doesnt say much.

All I can say is, What was Arkansas thinking? I give give him 2 years, 3 max and out.

I don't know, Bielema's record is 37-19 in 7 years, Saban's was 23-16-1 in 5 yrs.  3 big ten titles to 0.  Sure, Bielema was handed a better program.  But stats are stats; what he said isn't false.

Now, the reason he said it, to be favorably compared to Saban - is laughable.  Good luck in October, Bret -- oh, the Tide just scored again.

I don't know what Saban inherited at MSU, but Bielema was handed a Ferrari at Wisconsin and told to not eff it up.

And Nick Saban replied by asking "who is Bret Bielema?"
