49ers work out former West Virginia quarterback Pat White
Pat White hasn’t played quarterback in the NFL since 2009 but his dual-threat abilities could be his ticket to an NFL comeback. White worked out for the 49ers and head coach Jim Harbaugh Thursday at the team’s Santa Clara facility, as first reported by Kyle Bonagura of CSNBayArea.
White, 27, played in 13 game for the Dolphins his rookie season, gaining 81 yards in 21 carries and throwing five incomplete passes. The Dolphins drafted him in the second round after back-to-back top-seven Heisman Trophy finishes. White passed for 6,049 yards and 56 touchdowns, and rushed for 4,480 yards and 47 touchdowns in four years at West Virginia.
The 49ers are in the market for reserve quarterbacks behind starter Colin Kaepernick and reserve Scott Tolzien, following the trade of Alex Smith the Chiefs.
