Packers tight end Jermichael Finley announces he is back with team

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley announced Monday on his Twitter page that he will be back with the team next season.

No official announcement has been made by the Packers but according to, Finley was due a $3 million roster bonus by 4:00 p.m. today, and will make $8.25 million this season. He is in the last year of a two-year, $14 million contract signed last offseason.

The team had a decision to make after losing Greg Jennings and Tom Crabtree to free agency. Finley said earlier this month that he would rather be released than take a pay cut from the team.

Finley, 25, caught 61 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Packers.

ughh. not worth it. you can sign my redskins TE Davis for dimes and hell beat those numbers every year.

We Packers fans get nervous when a ball gets thrown to Finley, since his drops usually seem involve clutch situations. But he appeared to level out and learn a little humility towards the end of the season, and he and Roj started connecting on the field. I really hope that's the Finley he turns into. It should be; he's young, and the Packers are great at player development.

Probably a good move, but mention of Finley brings up traumatic memories of hovering tensely 6 inches off the couch on a 3rd and 2 play, then clutching hair in disbelief and disappointment for a painful second or two before stomping to the kitchen for a distraction snack. The acute stress of fandom. I don't quite miss it yet.
